Who was behind Will Ospreay’s dig at Triple H?

While the footage of the backstage fight between CM Punk and Jack Perry may have stolen the headlines, it wasn’t the only moment of controversy on AEW Dynamite.

During WrestleMania weekend, Triple H appeared on The Pat McAfee Show and discussed wrestlers choosing not to sign with WWE. The Game said when he sees people who don’t want to “grind” with WWE take easy schedules elsewhere, he’s happy he never ended up signing them.

This was taken by many to be a shot at Will Ospreay who held negotiations with WWE before deciding to join AEW. Ospreay has publicly admitted that a large part of his reasoning behind signing with AEW was the easier schedule that means he and his family can continue to live in the UK.

Not one to take the slight lying down, Will Ospreay fired back at Triple H on Dynamite. The British star said that the only reason the WWE boss is in his job is because he was “grinding” on the boss’ daughter. While the line was quick to grab fans’ attention, there have been conflicting reports over where it came from.

According to Wade Keller of PWTorch, the line was fed to Ospreay and it wasn’t something he came up with himself. However, it’s been reported by Fightful Select that Ospreay was fine with the promo and worked with the creative team to put it together.

Fightful added that Ospreay “ran the promo by several people backstage.”

Will Ospreay Almost Took Shot At CM Punk

The report also revealed scrapped plans for Will Ospreay to take a shot at CM Punk. During discussions, AEW decided against going after Punk again given they were already showing footage of his fight with Perry.

Will Ospreay is set to challenge Bryan Danielson at AEW Dynasty in a huge dream match. Meanwhile, CM Punk remains out of action after suffering a triceps injury at the Royal Rumble.
