Cody Rhodes Reveals If Finishing The Story Must Be At WrestleMania

Cody Rhodes has given a thoughtful answer when asked if “finishing the story” has to be at an event like WrestleMania.

For the past year, Cody Rhodes and WWE announcer Michael Cole have talked about Cody “finishing the story” many times. It is a reference to Cody’s goal of winning the WWE Championship, which is something his father Dusty Rhodes, and brother Dustin “Goldust” Rhodes never did.

The “finishing the story” phrase has been used so much in WWE vernacular over the last year that it has even become a theme of the WWE 2K24 game, which has Cody on the standard cover.

It was one year ago when Cody Rhodes won the 2023 Royal Rumble match. At WrestleMania 39, Cody appeared to have the Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns beat until Solo Sikoa interfered to hit Cody with a Samoan Spike. Reigns capitalized with a Spear for the win.

During an appearance on Busted Open Radio, Cody was asked by legendary wrestler Tommy Dreamer if he had to “finish the story” at WrestleMania.

“I don’t think I have a definitive answer, but I will tell you, I think it does. The reason being, if last year, the match had gone differently. If last year Roman had just beaten me 1-2-3, right in the middle, I just crumbled under the lights and I wasn’t on his level, that’s a different story. The way the match unfolded and the year I have, it feels like it has to be at WrestleMania. It just seems like it’s coming full circle.”

“Everything can change. You have to get to WrestleMania in the first place, whether you win the Royal Rumble or the Elimination Chamber. It’s not an easy task. It would have been different if this was the first time.”

“This is a rematch. I feel like the rematch needs to take place where the original match took place. Just my gut. Is there a world where it doesn’t happen there, sure, perhaps, but in my lay down at night and go to sleep dreams, it would be at WrestleMania, especially since I love Philadelphia.”

Does Cody Rhodes Think That The Rock Is In His Way?

While it appeared in the past that Cody Rhodes could face Roman Reigns again at WrestleMania this year, it may not happen due to the ominous presence of WWE legend The Rock, who was named to the TKO/WWE Board of Directors earlier this week.

When asked if The Rock was in his way, Cody Rhodes responded respectfully as always.

“I don’t consider him in my way. Maybe he is, and I’m being naive to it. Maybe he maybe he wants to get in, I don’t know. But I don’t consider him in my way. Again, The Rock is one of the main reasons we’re here today. Nothing but respect. But also at the same time, I have to have the respect for myself to know where I’d like to go.”

The Royal Rumble takes place later tonight, January 27th at Tropicana Field with Cody as one of the favorites to win along with CM Punk, Drew McIntyre and 27 others.
