Cody Rhodes Asked John Cena For A Match In WWE
Cody Rhodes opened up about wanting to wrestle John Cena before the Hollywood star hangs up his boots for good.
As a 16-time World Champion, John Cena has cemented himself as one of the greats in WWE history. After decades in the world of professional wrestling, his appearances with the company are becoming more and more sporadic as he takes on conquering the world of Hollywood with projects such as Peacemaker, Fast X, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem.
Cody Rhodes, meanwhile, is still chasing the top prize in WWE but has made quite a splash since making his return to the company in 2022, even finding himself in the main event of WrestleMania against Roman Reigns.
During a Reddit AMA, one fan asked Rhodes if he planned to wrestle Cena, writing:
“I bought my brother that shirt of yours that had you eating a slice of pizza and said something like “Everybody loves Cody, Cody loves everybody”. He loved it. Second biggest Cody Rhodes fan I know. He ended up getting a blood stain on it which we thought was fitting.
Anyway, are you gonna wrestle John Cena?”
Rhodes revealed that he’s already reached out to Cena about a potential rematch between the two, but noted that if they don’t have another bout before Cena retires from the ring, he’s content with having learned from the megastar in the past.
“I asked John if he does one more…to consider that match. If not though, I’m blessed to have been under his learning tree and shared a ring with him in the past”
Have John Cena And Cody Rhodes Wrestled Before?
Though they haven’t found themselves together inside the squared circle since Rhodes’ most recent WWE return, the two men are no strangers to one another, having shared the ring together as both teammates and opponents on many occasions between 2008 and 2015.
The most recent bout between Cena and Rhodes came on the April 6th, 2015 episode of Monday Night Raw. On that occasion, Rhodes (portraying his Stardust character) came up short against Cena in a United States Championship Open Challenge match.
Cena is set to make his return to WWE on the September 1st episode of SmackDown and will be stepping inside the ring once again on September 8th for the company’s upcoming Superstar Spectacle in India.
