Cody Rhodes Admits Mistake With Controversial Tweet: “Poorly Worded”

Cody Rhodes WWE

Cody Rhodes recently recalled one of his most viral tweets being taken out of context.

The American Nightmare posted a tweet on July 8, 2025, which had no context and was more cryptic.

Don’t flinch. Thank you all for riding with me all this time. Love you for it.

Excited for what we do next.

The tweet sent his followers and wrestling fans, in general, into a frenzy as they speculated about various things, including a potential heel turn for him and even his future with WWE.

Cody Rhodes Admits To His Tweet Being Poorly Worded

During the latest episode of his podcast, What Do You Wanna Talk About?, he addressed the traction surrounding the said tweet with Becky Lynch, who was the guest on the show.

The discussion occurred as the stars spoke about maintaining a sense of mystique while using social media.

Cody Rhodes, instead, opined that he detested the mystery and preferred to bring his fans on the journey with him.

I even said that in that post the other day, which people way overthought.

Becky Lynch jumped in and questioned him, asking what the “don’t flinch” was about, and said it was bound to get that reaction.

Don’t flinch about anything that happens in WWE. It was literally just don’t flinch…and I just wanted to say, “Hey, we’re in it. We”re still doing it.” Because I like bringing them on the ride with me. There’s no firewall, he said.

Lynch, meanwhile, asked for clarification, saying, “Don’t flinch stuff with John Cena,” referencing Rhodes’ ongoing feud with the 17-time world champion.

That’s a way better way to look at it. That’s 100% more what it was. Instead it became this…As you’re picking it apart, I find your point valid. Probably a poorly-time tweet or poorly worded.

Cody Rhodes also discussed bringing back a polarizing WWE character after 9 years. Read about it here.
