John Cena To Headline New WWE Event

John Cena WWE Shocked

John Cena will be in the main event for a new WWE Premium Live Event.

It’s been announced that WWE will kick off its new ESPN era on September 20 with Wrestlepalooza. The event will be the first run under the Wrestlepalooza banner since ECW used the name in 1995, 1997, 1998, and 2000.

It hasn’t gone unnoticed by many fans that September 20 is also the date of AEW All Out.

It had originally been believed that Premium Live Events would be moving from Peacock to ESPN in early 2026, but the start date of the agreement has been moved forward. The five-year deal for PLE rights in the United States is worth a staggering $1.6 billion.

Although he wasn’t mentioned by name in the press release, Sean Ross Sapp confirmed that WWE is still planning to use Brock Lesnar at the event. Cena has 11 dates left before he officially retires, and nine of those dates have now been announced.

According to the release, Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, Becky Lynch, Drew McIntyre, and CM Punk will also be in action.

WWE To Counter All Out With John Cena?

The announcement comes after it was reported that WWE was making plans for Brock Lesnar vs. John Cena. Not only that, there were claims that the company was looking to use the match to counter AEW All Out.

This theory has since gathered further weight after it was noted that Brock Lesnar is being advertised for SmackDown on September 12 and September 19. A potential match in September would also explain why Lesnar isn’t being used at Clash In Paris on August 31.

Meanwhile, there have also been claims that WWE will look to use TNA as a way of taking the fight to AEW. This report said that the sports entertainment giant is looking to help TNA secure a new TV deal that will see Impact move to Wednesday nights to go head-to-head with Dynamite.
