CM Punk Says WWE Is Protecting Him From Himself

cm punk wwe promo raw speech

CM Punk should be on his way to a huge match at WrestleMania 40 but his body had other ideas after he suffered an injury that will keep him out of action for several months.

CM Punk shocked everyone when he returned to WWE at Survivor Series 2023. The former AEW World Champion’s first televised match back in the company was the men’s Royal Rumble that ended in disaster for the star. A Future Shock DDT by Drew McIntyre on Punk led to him suffering a torn triceps meaning WrestleMania is now off the table for the star.

Speaking on The MMA Hour, CM Punk gave an update on his injury status and noted that there’s a part of him that wanted to try and be ready for WrestleMania but WWE is trying to protect him from himself:

I feel really, really good. There is part of me that doesn’t want everybody to know. I want to keep a bit of a secret. I feel way better than I think I should. It’s giving me a false sense of security. There is very much the hockey player in my head, ‘You could have made Mania. You could have taped it up.’ They are protecting me against myself.

CM Punk Told To Pump The Brakes

Punk was then asked point blank if he could be involved in WrestleMania 40 in a physical way and he says the company are telling him to pump the brakes and he’s trying to listen:

They are protecting me against myself, which is a welcome change. I’m the one trying to push everything based on protocols for a ruptured tricep tendon. They’re telling me to pump the brakes. I’m sitting back and listening to them as best I can.

This one [left arm] didn’t feel like anything. It didn’t hurt at all. It felt like a rubberband snapped in my arm. I very seldom use agonizing for this one [right arm]. This was very painful. It hurt like hell. It made me optimistic, ‘Certainly I didn’t tear it off the bone like the other one.’ It hurt. I knew immediately. ‘This isn’t good.’

CM Punk’s involvement with WWE’s medical staff is a checkered one. A lawsuit was filed after CM Punk publicly told his side of the story when he walked out of the company in 2014 and took issue with one particular doctor working for WWE.

CM Punk will be at WrestleMania 40 in a special role as he’ll get an up close and personal look at Seth Rollins defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Drew McIntyre.
