CM Punk Teases Backstage WWE Role After In-Ring Retirement
While CM Punk has no plan to retire anytime soon, he realizes that it’s imminent.
As a talent on WWE RAW, he is involved in a storyline with his wife, AJ Lee, and feuding against Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch.
CM Punk returned to the Stamford promotion at the 2023 Survivor Series: WarGames for the first time since 2014, when he quit due to creative frustrations.
Since then, he has earned his spot as one of the company’s top stars alongside the likes of John Cena, Cody Rhodes, and Seth Rollins.
During a recent appearance on Pardon My Take, the former World Champion discussed what was next for him after retiring from in-ring competition.
I think I’m a five-tool player. You can put me on commentary. I could ref. That probably wouldn’t work. I’d probably take some attention away from whoever is in the ring. There are so many behind-the-scenes roles. We call them producers now, but in my day we called them agents. There are people who put shows together. There are writers, obviously, now. Creative people. I love all aspects of the business. There are 1000 hats I could wear once I’m crippled and can’t go anymore. [H/T: Fightful]
CM Punk Reveals His Feelings About Working With His Wife
AJ Lee returned to WWE after much anticipation on the September 5 episode of SmackDown. It was her first appearance in over ten years.
CM Punk and Lee had been involved a storyline during their initial run in the early 2010s. The pair dated and married within a year in 2014 and have been going strong ever since.
The 46-year-old star also revealed how he felt about working with his wife again after a decade.
I’m having the time of my life. I’m like the uber-nerdiest, wife-guy. I always like to say that I try to spend as much time with my wife as I can, and I spent a lot of time with her, and it never feels like it’s enough. Having her back in this environment with me at work is like a dream come true.
CM Punk and AJ Lee will face Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team match at WWE Wrestlepalooza on September 20.
