CM Punk Reportedly Went Off-Script To Shockingly Mention Vince McMahon

CM Punk’s feud with Drew McIntyre in early 2024 was one for the ages.

Their promos carried true drama, potentially owing to their real-life animosities towards each other.

The Voice of the Voiceless returned to the Stamford promotion in November 2023, much to the dismay of a few wrestlers, including McIntyre and Seth Rollins.

Punk was immediately inserted into the World Championship storyline, developing a feud with Rollins.

However, he was sidelined after suffering a triceps injury at the 2024 Royal Rumble. Drew McIntyre was brought in to replace Punk.

All this while, The Scottish Warrior accused Punk of stealing his WrestleMania spotlight. Despite his inability to compete, WWE kept CM Punk featured in the story.

During one such face-off on the March 25, 2024, episode, McIntyre referred to himself as the “chosen one,” which was a callback to his first stint in the company when Vince McMahon gave him that moniker.

Punk snapped back, saying, “Chosen One! Who chose you? Who? What was his name? You got the b*lls to say you’re the Chosen One. Tell me, what paragon of good virtue chose you?”

By this time of the year, Vince McMahon had resigned as the CEO after finding himself neck deep in a sexual assault lawsuit. On his part, McIntyre did his best to remain composed.

CM Punk Went Off-Script With His Promo With Drew McIntyre

Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful recently addressed the segment during the Select Q&A segment when a fan inquired about it, also claiming that the higher-ups backstage were not happy with CM Punk.

Vince was a no-go in any sense. There were very few people that were just no-gos, Sapp said.

That line [from Punk] — according to people I talked to — claim it wasn’t [scripted]. They claim it was not scripted. I didn’t see a script for that. So, you know, there’s always a chance they could be lying. But that was not a good one. People weren’t thrilled about that line. [H/T: Ringside News]
