CM Punk “Looking To Get Back” To AEW
A new report has suggested that CM Punk could now be looking to get his way back into AEW after being out of action since the backstage fight at All Out.
CM Punk made his debut for AEW in August 2021, becoming AEW World Champion at Double Or Nothing in 2022 but injury hampered that reign. He returned to action in August and then ultimately re-captured the title at All Out. However, that show will forever be overshadowed by what happened afterward.
CM Punk was caught up in an alleged backstage fight with The Elite which saw all four men stripped of their respective titles and suspended from the company. The Elite has since returned to action while Punk’s future looks increasingly uncertain.
Rumours persist about CM Punk’s future with some even suggesting that he could make a sensational return to WWE if his contract situation with AEW is resolved. However, it doesn’t look like that would be universally appreciated.
In AEW in recent weeks, MJF has consistently referred to himself as the “best in the world” which many took to be a reference to Punk who has long used that moniker.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted a recent social media post of Punks where he discussed issues between Steve Keirn and Koko B. Ware who were involved in a backstage fight, and how Jerry Lawler brought them into the office the following day to squash any problems, suggesting he might be open to doing the same with The Elite:
“What it says is that he wants back in. Which we’ve already known, other people have said that too, that he’s looking to get back in. It’s up to Tony (Khan) and Tony’s gonna make a decision at some point.
“He’s probably just about ready, if not ready already, from the torn triceps, so it is one of those things that he can do soon enough.”
Many believe that CM Punk recently offered a hint that he could look to return to a Tony Khan-owned company but Ring of Honor rather than AEW.
