CM Punk’s AEW Return Is Being Planned
Get the muffins ready for upcoming AEW press conferences because there are plans in place for CM Punk to return to All Elite Wrestling.
There was a big update on CM Punk potentially returning to AEW very soon with Fightful reporting that Punk has told the company “repeatedly” that he wants to come back.
The last time CM Punk was seen on AEW programming was at All Out in September 2022 when he beat Jon Moxley to become a two-time AEW World Champion in Punk’s hometown of Chicago.
After the match, Punk went on a much-publicized press conference rant where he aired his grievances about Colt Cabana, “Hangman” Adam Page, the EVPs in AEW and many other things. That led to a backstage fight with Punk and his friend Ace Steel fighting against The Elite’s Kenny Omega and Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson). Steel was fired, the others were suspended and Punk has been home recuperating from a torn triceps injury that required surgery.
It is believed that Punk has healed from the torn triceps injury since it requires about eight months of rehab, but what hasn’t been known is if AEW wants Punk back.
In an update on Fightful Select today, Sean Ross Sapp reports that after yesterday’s report, the wheels were in already in motion for Punk’s return.
AEW recently announced that the Wintrust Arena in Chicago (Punk’s hometown) will host the June 21st episode of AEW Dynamite, which is considered “a date to look out for” regarding Punk’s return. Fightful added that the working plan is for Punk to return there or at some point close to it.
There have also been ideas pitched about announcing Punk’s AEW return well ahead of time rather than making it a surprise.
As for future rivalries in AEW, Fightful reports that Punk was hoping to work with Omega and The Young Bucks although it’s not known if there has been contact between them. Meanwhile, Omega and The Young Bucks are negotiating new contracts with AEW as well.
In addition to that, Fightful adds that “there was also a meeting planned between CM Punk and Chris Jericho.” Jericho is a locker room leader in AEW and somebody that was outspoken about Punk after the fight, but time heals all wounds in some cases.
Regarding AEW’s new Saturday show, AEW wrestlers have heard about the show starting although they haven’t heard as much about Punk’s return to the company.
It was reiterated by Fightful that things can always change, especially in this case considering all the twists and turns that have happened regarding Punk possibly returning to AEW, possibly being let go from the contract, and so on.
Dax Harwood is one of CM Punk’s best friends in AEW and he made it clear recently that Punk wants to get back to wrestling.
