Chris Jericho’s Close Friend Drops Major Update On WWE Return
Many believe that Chris Jericho’s return to WWE is imminent.
Over the last few days, reports stating that the Stamford promotion is interested in giving him a Hall of Fame induction and a John Cena-like retirement tour in 2026 have gained traction.
But a close friend of Y2J, and former wrestler, Ernest “The Cat” Miller, has put the rumors to bed, claiming that he has spoken to Jericho personally.
While speaking on a recent episode of his The Cat’s Corner Podcast, the former WCW star addressed Chris Jericho’s WWE return.
So what I said is WWE signing a AEW release wrestler, and this is what I heard. I’ve been hearing all over the thing. I’ve heard it from him. I talked to him. He didn’t say he’s leaving right away. You know, I talked to Chris Jericho.
Miller also rubbished the reports of his Hall of Fame induction and a retirement tour.
I haven’t heard all that now, cuz they don’t know. That’s what I heard. No. Well, whoever told you that they don’t know a damn thing that will happen then. [H/T: Ringside News]
While Chris Jericho is not opposed to returning to his former employer, he is currently signed with AEW. During his ongoing hiatus, he had liked a post on Instagram speculating about his WWE return, fueling discussions online.
Chris Jericho Recalls Turning Down WWE Gimmick
Even before debuting for WCW, Chris Jericho received an offer from WWE.
While appearing at the Horror, Rock & Wrestle Fest 2025 event, he apoke about his interaction with Jim Cornette about an absurd gimmick that he turned down.
He [Cornette] was like, ‘Should I put you down with an asterisk?’ And I was like ‘No, put me down with a ‘no,’ I’m not interested,’” Jericho recalled. “This was when they had The Goon, they had Salvatore Sincere, and they had The Pug, they had TL Hopper, who was a plumber, and The Goon, which I’m convinced was supposed to be me.
Fortunately for him, WCW approached him for a tryout soon, and after being left impressed, the promotion offered him a full-time contract.
Chris Jericho left WCW to join its rival promotion in 1999.
