Chris Jericho Addresses Possibly Going Back To WWE Amid Return Speculation
Chris Jericho has spoken up about a possible WWE return, while also proclaiming his status with AEW.
When AEW launched in January 2019, Chris Jericho was one of the first people to sign a contract with Tony Khan. At the time, Jericho was away from WWE, working some NJPW shows and proving he could be a big deal outside of WWE.
For most of the previous 20 years, Jericho was a WWE guy who had six WWE World Title reigns in his career and the most Intercontinental Title reigns of all time with nine.
During his AEW career, Chris Jericho was the first AEW World Champion, he led multiple stables, feuded with all the biggest names in the company, and did his best to elevate younger talent. Jericho also held the ROH World Title twice in his AEW run.
Over the past month, there has been speculation about how Jericho is likely going to leave AEW when his contract expires at the end of the year. In fact, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that many people within AEW don’t expect Jericho to return to the company.
If he never wrestles for AEW again, Chris Jericho’s last match with the company was at the Dynasty PPV in April when he lost the ROH World Title to Bandido.
Chris Jericho Admits He Wouldn’t Be Opposed To A WWE Return
Since the speculation started about a possible WWE return, Chris Jericho has mostly stayed silent. However, Jericho did tell the Daily Mail at Halloween Horror Nights that he’s not against going back “home” to WWE.
“The best thing that can happen to wrestling is AEW and the fact that there are two huge promotions that you can choose from just makes it better for the guys, makes it better for the fans, and everybody in between. I’m not going anywhere for a long while.
I’m still with AEW for right now. Would I go back to WWE? I wouldn’t be opposed to it. We just have to see what happens. The best thing that can happen is to have two great teams that you can play for, and that just makes everything bigger and more exciting.”
At 54 years old (he’ll be 55 in November), Chris Jericho is likely near the end of his career, but at this point, there’s no official word on what’s next for the future WWE Hall of Famer.
