A top AEW star is heading back to WWE.

Throughout August, there was increased speculation that Chris Jericho could return to WWE when his AEW contract runs out. The first-ever AEW World Champion is expected to become a free agent in December 2025.

Although still under contract with AEW, it’s believed that the first-ever AEW World Champion has already reached out to his former employer to gauge interest in a potential move. From the WWE side, it’s been reported that many within the company would welcome him back with open arms.

Jericho hasn’t been seen on AEW television since walking out on The Learning Tree on the April 7 edition of Dynamite.

WWE Is Making Big Plans For Chris Jericho

According to a new report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE’s plans for Jericho would be based around a retirement tour and Hall of Fame induction.

While many expect Jericho to return at the Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia before competing at WrestleMania, and perhaps for several more years to come, a Hall of Fame induction would mark something of a U-turn.

Speaking in December 2023, Chris Jericho said he “didn’t understand the point” of the Hall of Fame and didn’t care whether he was inducted. This change in mindset appears to back up a more recent report that claimed the veteran never intended to return to WWE, even though he left the door open.
