Charlotte Flair Admits Controversial Rivalry Got “Super Personal”
Charlotte Flair has admitted things got out of hand.
On the April 4 episode of SmackDown, the rivalry between Charlotte Flair and Tiffany Stratton exploded. Flair had only returned to action two months earlier as she won the Royal Rumble, before choosing to face Stratton at WrestleMania.
As tension increased, things went to a whole new level in a face-to-face promo battle.
During the segment, the pair quickly decided following the script wasn’t for them and began trading increasingly personal insults. This saw Flair mock Stratton’s voice, while Stratton took repeated shots at Flair about her recent divorce.
The tension was reportedly in response to a segment a week earlier where Flair repeatedly talked over Stratton in a side-by-side interview.
Following the show, it was reported there was heat on both women, with the segment described as a “wreck” backstage.
Charlotte Flair Reflects On Controversial Tiffany Stratton Battle
During a new interview with Rick Ucchino for The Takedown on SI, Flair looked back on her road to WrestleMania and the match with Stratton. The veteran conceded that things got “super personal” in the build-up, but when they made it to the ring, the match was what it needed to be.
“I think the match was everything that it needed to be. It definitely got super personal, extremely heated going into WrestleMania,” she said. “The personal story and how physical it was, the elaborate entrances, we both had our own unique entrance. I thought she showed up and showed out. I thought it was great.”
In more recent weeks, Flair has formed an unlikely partnership with Alexa Bliss, and the duo teamed together with great effect on the July 4 edition of SmackDown. With the victory over The Secret Hervice and Michin & B-Fab, Flair and Bliss earned a shot at the Women’s Tag Team Championship at Evolution.
Flair and Bliss will challenge Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez, along with two more teams who are yet to qualify for the match.
