Chad Gable Reflects On Loss To GUNTHER – “I’m Taking That Championship”
Chad Gable will not stop until he dethrones GUNTHER.
Gable was in the biggest match of his career on the September 4th episode of WWE Raw, competing in the main event of the show in a match against The Ring General with the title on the line. Having already beaten Gunther via count-out, the Alpha Academy coach hoped to do one better by picking up a decisive victory.
Unfortunately for the former Tag Team Champion, it was not his night as GUNTHER won the match and retained the championship. The victory is also a significant one for the leader of Imperium as he will now go on to break The Honky Tonk Man’s record for the longest-ever singular reign with the title.
Speaking with WWE after the match, Chad Gable stated that he has fought back from setbacks in the past, but was more bothered about GUNTHER harassing his family who was sitting in the front row:
“It’s one of those things where amateur wrestling taught me a lot about this, like having these huge opportunities and these big character-building and breakout moments at your disposal, and you gotta make the most of them. Then when something like tonight happens and it just slips through your fingers, it’s happened before in amateur wrestling, but I learned to persevere, like find my way through it and realize that that’s not the end. I promise you, in this situation, it’s the same thing. That’s not the end, for a number of reasons.
One, because I have a legacy to protect here. We can talk all the ‘haha’ stuff you want, ‘Thank you’ and ‘Shoosh.’ All that’s fun, and it’s a good time to do that to people and fun to play along with. But there’s also times where, when it’s my kids sitting in the front freaking row, and we got Gunther out there, talking to them, saying, ‘Is this your daddy,’ and chopping me in front of them, my daughter’s crying her freaking eyes out, it kind of stops being fun at a certain point. So that bothers me at a certain level.
Gable continued, declaring that his goal will be to get one more match with GUNTHER and be the one to take the title away from Imperium:
So you have my word, I swear to you, I swear to everybody, on myself and my career, that’s not the end. I’m taking the Intercontinental Championship. I want him to keep it as long as it freaking takes for me to get a rematch. Because I’m coming back for it, and I swear to god, I’m winning that championship,”
Chad Gable Feels He Has A Point To Prove
The former Olympian is looking to make 2023 his breakout year. While many have been entertained by Chad Gable’s catchphrases and mannerisms, the former Tag Team Champion wants to be recognised for his amazing in-ring work more than anything else. This was showcased at WrestleMania 39 when Gable wanted to make the 4-Way tag team match that he competed in mean more than a throwaway contest.
H/t to Fightful.
