GUNTHER Reacts To First Loss On WWE Main Roster Against Chad Gable

GUNTHER vows to bounce back following his first official loss on WWE’s main roster.

The August 21st edition of WWE RAW included an Intercontinental Championship match featuring Chad Gable as challenger. Gable has been on an impressive streak as of late, to the point that some people believed he stood a chance at winning this match.

In the end, those people were proven right as Gable defeated GUNTHER in that match…albeit via count-out. When GUNTHER went for another stiff knife-edge chop, Gable dodged it and the champion hit the ringpost with his hand instead. Gable followed that with a heaving German suplex that sent the champion over a piece of barricade and then darted back into the ring before the referee’s count of ten.

GUNTHER was still ringside when that count went out, which meant that Gable won the match but not the title. So while the champion retained his title, he still suffered his first official loss since coming to the main roster and changing his name.

GUNTHER will not be discouraged by his loss to Chad Gable

In an interview with Jeff Snyder, GUNTHER explained what has been going through his mind since that loss and what he’s doing to make sure such a thing doesn’t happen again.

“I’m definitely taking pride in my title reign. Ever since I came to the main roster, it didn’t take too long until I got my hands on the Intercontinental Championship. Since then, I can leave my own mark and legacy on the title and in the same process, building my own legacy.

I’ve been doing it my way, the way I’ve always expressed myself in the ring, I’m still doing that and that’s something I’m very proud of, obviously. Wins and losses in wrestling are something different than in other sports, but in my situation, it’s very important to win because I plan to stay Intercontinental Champion.”

As of this writing, GUNTHER has been Intercontinental Champion for 442 days, which puts him only twelve days behind the current record held by the Honky Tonk Man.
