Booker T has stated that CM Punk has walked away from a massive payday for the second time in his wrestling career.

Punk has become the talk of the wrestling world following the announcement that he was fired by Tony Khan on September 2nd. The news had quickly become one of the most talked about stories of the year as multiple wrestling personalities have given their take on whether it was the right thing to do and how the process was handled.

The 6-time world champion has commented on what has occurred in All Elite Wrestling on the Hall of Fame podcast. The NXT commentator believes that just like in WWE, Punk has walked out of AEW when he could have made a lot more money by remaining:

“I know a lot of people say Booker T hated CM Punk. That’s not the case at all. I’ve never really hated CM Punk or anything like that, but I gotta say, you can be good at what you do, and if people like you, you’ll stick around forever. You can be great at what you do, and if people don’t like you, they will bounce your ass up out of there some way, somehow, and that’s this situation right here. Right now.

CM Punk left a whole lot of money on the table on the other side of the fence, and he just left a boatload of money on the table again, and people can say what they want to say, but we’ve seen this story before. This is the exact same story almost in a nutshell.”

The story that the Hall of Famer refers to is when Punk walked out of WWE in 2014 after the Royal Rumble, sacrificing a large paycheck due to being unhappy with his creative.

Booker T Wants To See Former Champion Return To WWE

If Punk intends to make a wrestling return, WWE seems like the only option as they will be the only company to pay the high asking price for the former World Champion. While Booker T did not comment on whether or not Punk should make a return after 9 tears, he has previously stated that another former champion should have one more run.
