Becky Lynch Looks Back On “Shameful” WWE Debut

Former Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion Becky Lynch has reflected on her WWE debut, calling it one of the most “shameful” in company history.

Before Becky Lynch became Big Time, before she main evented WrestleMania, before she became The Man, and before she was part of The Four Horsewomen of wrestling, the Irish star’s introduction to a WWE audience was something very different from what fans are accustomed to now.

On the 26th of June 2014, Becky Lynch made her televised debut on NXT where she defeated Summer Rae. This wasn’t a Lynch that was recognisable to WWE audiences of 2022 but rather a green-clad Becky Lynch who came to the ring while dancing an Irish jig.

Taking to social media to reminisce about her debut, Becky Lynch gave stellar advice:

“8 years ago I had possibly the most shameful debut in NXT/WWE history. Today I have accomplished nearly everything I could have ever dreamed of. And tonight I will main event like I always do at #wwehidalgo. Where you’ve been doesn’t have to indicate where you’ll go.”

The high point of Lynch’s WWE career came at WrestleMania 35 in 2019 where she, along with Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair, became the first women in history to headline a WrestleMania. Lynch won that Triple Threat match to emerge from that event as both Raw and SmackDown Women’s Champion.
