Banned Stars Referenced On AEW Dynamite

AEW Dynamite

Two stars that are not likely to ever appear on AEW television were referenced on AEW Dynamite as a huge title match was announced on the show.

On Dynamite in Cedar Park, Texas FTR challenged The Acclaimed for the AEW Tag Team Championship as they looked to add a fourth title to their repertoire.

Unfortunately for Cash Wheeler and Dax Harwood, they came up short as The Acclaimed retained their gold but FTR’s night was not done there. On the video screen, The Gunns were seen mockingly applauding FTR before dropping a blockbuster announcement on them.

Austin Gunn revealed a card written in blood from ‘Dem Boys’ The Briscoes, challenging FTR to a match at Final Battle on the 10th of December 2022. The Gunns then revealed that the match will be a Double Dog Collar bout.

This is interesting as a previous report from back in March 2022 from Fightful Select noted that a “person of influence” in WarnerMedia – the parent company of TNT and TBS which AEW programming airs on – did not want The Briscoes in the company.

The issues stem from Jay Briscoe’s homophobic Tweets made in 2013 that Briscoe apologised for at the beginning of an ROH show the week after he sent out the offensive messages.

Tony Khan recently commented on The Briscoes and FTR’s series of matches from 2022 and hinted at the ROH team’s status by saying that he tried to host a match between the two teams in AEW but couldn’t do it.

The two teams met at Supercard of Honor and Death Before Dishonor earlier in 2022 with FTR picking up the victory in both bouts.
