Asuka Facing Former Champion On NXT October 10th
Asuka returns to the brand she once dominated.
The Empress of Tomorrow will return to NXT on the October 10th episode, facing off against fellow former Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez. With WWE Fastlane also taking place the weekend prior, where Asuka and Charlotte Flair will both challenge Iyo Sky for the Women’s Championship, there is a possibility that the former champion could arrive on Tuesday night with gold around her waist once again.
The former Women’s Champion is one of many main roster stars making the trip to the third brand on October 10th, as Cody Rhodes, John Cena and Paul Heyman have all been announced to make appearances on the show. Coincidentally, this is also the same date that AEW Dynamite will be running their Title Tuesday special, as the Wednesday night fixture has been moved to the previous day due to MLB playoffs.
Asuka’s History-Making Run In NXT
Regarded as one of the greatest NXT Women’s Champions of all time, The Empress defeated Bayley at TakeOver Dallas in 2016 to capture her only reign with the title. The reign would last for 522 days, a record that has yet to be broken. This reign would also be a part of the former Women’s Champion’s undefeated streak, where no one could dethrone the champion. The title was relinquished due to injury in April 2016, meaning that although The Empress lost the title, the undefeated streak remained intact.
Overtaking Goldberg’s legendary undefeated streak, the 2018 Royal Rumble would continue the undefeated run while on the main roster. The streak would come to an end after 914 days at WrestleMania 34 after a to Charlotte Flair via submission.
