Former WWE Star Named AEW Wrestler Of The Year
This former WWE star is a force to be reckoned with in AEW
Jon Moxley went from being Dean Ambrose in WWE, a character who was on the fringe and sometimes goofy and awkwardly comedic, to becoming a more serious character, which was similar to a version of his real self in AEW.
Moxley writes his own promos and flaunts his natural, intimidating, imposing self in the Jacksonville-based promotion. He has been the AEW World Champion three times and has consistently been one of the promotion’s top names. Many fans tune in exclusively to watch him in action week after week.
Moxley has said in the past that he felt restricted and burnt out in WWE, but his time in AEW helped him flourish.
Jon Moxley Named AEW Male Wrestler Of The Year By Freddie Prinze Jr.
Hollywood actor Freddie Prinze Jr, who is best known for his role in the movie “I Know What You Did Last Summer, was giving out year-end awards to the best male and female wrestlers across promotions on his Wrestling With Freddie podcast.
Freddie named Jon Moxley AEW male wrestler of the year by saying that his selfless contributions in putting other wrestlers over after his Championship loss highlight how good a professional he really is, and that’s why he picked Moxley.
It’s Jon Moxley. Not because of his championship run, but because of what he’s done since losing the title. Putting guys like Kyle O’Reilly and Claudio over. In the match he had with Darby (Allin) after the loss, where they tried to kill each other…and tapping out to these guys and going on this losing streak.
It takes a lot of egoless art to do that. Because it’s not gonna be about you..He’s my wrestler of the year. (5:24 onwards)
