Top AEW Star Calls On Tony Khan To Introduce Women’s Blood & Guts Match
Pressure is growing on AEW boss Tony Khan.
First introduced in 2021, Blood and Guts served as AEW’s answer to the classic WarGames format. The match features two rings surrounded by a double-steel cage with a roof, with participants entering at set intervals. Victory is secured by submission or surrender.
To date, there have been four matches fought under Blood and Guts rules, but interestingly, there’s yet to be a women’s match. Much to the annoyance of vast sections of AEW’s fanbase. However, there’s growing pressure working to try and change that.
During a new interview with Blavity, Willow Nightingale, who has established herself as something of a hardcore specialist in AEW, was asked about the prospect of a women’s Blood and Guts Match.
“To see how the division has evolved from those early days to hold onto all of that wonderful, aesthetically pleasing [part of being] women’s wrestlers, but still kick a– in a bloody, gory mix of everything too, I think we’re really trying to push and show that.
A lot of times, people will say our women’s division is just as good as our men’s division, and I feel that should be standard everywhere, all over the place. But I feel like we have our own unique identity, and I really do think a Blood and Guts type match is a part of that.
I think we love bearing that. I think we love the viscerality of that, so it’s about time if something like that does happen.”
Tony Khan Open To Women’s Blood And Guts Match
During an interview in July 2024, Tony Khan said that he’d be open to holding a women’s Blood and Guts match in the future. However, he admitted that the match would only be introduced if the story around it made sense.
Khan also suggested that injuries had played a part in his decision not to book the match already.
In 2023, Tony Khan said introducing the match at that point “wasn’t a feasible idea.”
