AEW In Talks With Ex-WWE Tag Team Champion
A former WWE Tag Team Champion is believed to be in talks about some kind of role in AEW.
AEW recently revealed Kazuchika Okada as the newest member of its roster as the Japanese star shocked everyone by joining The Young Bucks in The Elite. However, Okada’s time as the newbie in the locker room won’t last long with Mercedes Mone widely expected to appear in AEW imminently.
WWE cleared house in September 2023 with its first mass release since the company was taken over by Endeavor. Stars such as Matt Riddle, Dana Brooke, Dolph Ziggler, and Mustafa Ali were let go as was veteran star Shelton Benjamin.
AEW In Talks With Shelton Benjamin
Fightful Select has now reported that AEW has recently had conversations with ex-WWE star Shelton Benjamin regarding him appearing in the company. There is no confirmation on whether the talks have revolved around a contract or a full-time deal for the former Intercontinental Champion.
The report also noted that people in AEW were pushing to get Benjamin when rumours circulated that his WWE contract was expiring but that proved not to be the case.
Shelton Benjamin rejoined WWE in 2017 meaning he has never been a free agent during AEW’s existence before his release in 2023. The star does have a lot of history in Ring of Honor, however, where he spent three years between 2010 and 2013 winning the ROH Tag Team Championship on two occasions with Charlie Haas.
