AEW Star’s Deal Has Expired
It looks Brian Cage’s time in AEW and Ring of Honor is coming to an end and it has been revealed that the star’s contract has already expired.
Brian Cage joined AEW back at Double Or Nothing in 2020 when he was the surprise entrant in the Casino Ladder match and won the whole contest. He is best known for his time in Team Taz and for his reign as FTW Champion which he eventually lost to Ricky Starks.
Currently, Cage is one-third of the ROH Six-Man Tag Team Champions alongside Bishop Kaun and Toa Liona as part of Prince Nana’s Embassy.
Fightful originally reported that despite initial belief that Brian Cage’s deal with AEW was coming to an imminent end, the company had hoped to add time to his contract due to time missed because of injury. With time added that would have taken his contract to June 2023 but the star reportedly pushed back on that and was interested in his options as a free agent. One of those options is believed to be WWE, which is said to retain an interest in the star.
Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer has confirmed that Cage’s contract with AEW has indeed expired and he could well be losing his championship at Supercard of Honor:
“Brian Cage apparently is finishing up. That’s what I hear, that he’s finishing up unless they sign him to a new deal. If they do, then he’s not finishing up.
“His deal has expired, but he’s agreed to do business and drop the belts on the way out. If in fact he doesn’t sign.”
At ROH Supercard of Honor, Brian Cage, Kaun, and Toa Liona will defend their ROH Six-Man Tag Team Championship against AR Fox, Blake Christian, and Metalik.
The news that Brian Cage has been working with no contract comes at the same time as Jon Moxley revealing that he was working without an AEW contract during the summer of 2022.
