AEW Star Now A Free Agent
An AEW veteran is now a free agent.
Back in March, it was reported that Matt Hardy was nearing the end of his contract. The star later confirmed that he’d been offered a new deal, but was content to assess his options before making a commitment either way.
However, it’s now been reported by Fightful Select that Hardy is a free agent. The original belief was that Hardy’s contract expired in March, but it was extended for “a few weeks” to take it through WrestleMania.
The report confirms that while there had been talks between Hardy and AEW, he decided to let his contract expire.
Hardy, whose first televised match took place all the way back in 1994 signed with the company in March 2020. The veteran has repeatedly been linked with a return to WWE but it remains to be seen whether he’ll head back to the sports entertainment giant. The tag team legend recently caused a stir by visiting Monday Night Raw.
AEW Stars Feature At WrestleMania 40
AEW did have a small presence at WrestleMania, with The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and Chris Jericho shown in a video package for Cody Rhodes. Meanwhile, Dustin Rhodes and Ricky Starks were also pictured in the crowd.
The timing of The Bucks being shown on WWE programming is notable as AEW has announced that The Young Bucks will present footage of CM Punk’s fight at All In with Jack Perry on Dynamite.
