Former AEW Star Addresses Free Agency Status, If He’s Talked To WWE

Matt Hardy AEW logo blur

A veteran wrestler who no longer works for AEW has revealed if he’s talking to WWE about signing there.

Matt Hardy debuted in All Elite Wrestling in 2020 during the pandemic era of pro wrestling where no fans were in attendance for many of his first shows with the company.

During his AEW run, Hardy would go on to have storylines with wrestlers like Private Party, Ethan Page, he teamed up with brother Jeff Hardy and perhaps most memorably was knocked out during a match with Sammy Guevara.

The 30+ year wrestling veteran Hardy will turn 50 years old this September. While he has slowed down in the ring, he is also known for having a very creative mind.

As for how his wrestling free agency is going, Matt said on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy podcast that he enjoyed the free agency life.

“Incredibly enjoying it. I’m having a great time. This might spoil me a little bit. I’m in no huge rush to sign anything to be an official employee. I’m digging what I’m doing. I had a couple signings these last couple weeks.”

Could Matt Hardy Return To AEW Or Go Back To WWE?

While Hardy was All Elite for the last four years, he will always be remembered as a WWE guy due to his run there from the late 1990s and multiple stints that ended before his AEW debut. During his WWE career, Hardy won everything there is to win in that company in terms of titles except a major WWE World Title.

Regarding his free agent status, Matt Hardy admits that he’s spoken to AEW and WWE about his future.

“Yeah, I mean, full disclosure, I am doing what I should be doing as a free agent, creating hype around myself. Yes, I have been speaking with AEW constantly. I have been speaking with WWE. I have been speaking with several people across several different platforms. So I think the next couple weeks are gonna be fun, the next few weeks are gonna be fun.”

“As I said before, I think we’re getting to the point where we’re gonna be doing some pretty cool stuff coming up. So yeah, I am doing what I should be doing. My job as a brand, and I have to look at myself as a brand, a lot of my social media stuff is Matt Hardy brand, my job as a brand is to promote myself and to create buzz around myself. I feel like I do a pretty decent job about that, pretty decent job with it, whenever I am just able to freelance and do whatever.”

Hardy recently made headlines when he attended a WWE show with his wife Reby Hardy, but they saw it as a night hanging out with friends at a show.
