AEW Has A Special Episode Name For CM Punk’s TV Return
When CM Punk returns to AEW television, the company is going to use a special name for when he reappears on television.
CM Punk made his AEW debut on the August 20, 201 edition of Rampage. The company called it “The First Dance” as you can see in this YouTube clip below.
A lot of things have happened in the nearly two years since then. CM Punk has missed significant time due to foot and triceps injuries. He also won the AEW World Title twice. There was also a backstage fight on the night of his second World Title win at All Out in September 2022, which people in AEW still can’t really talk about due to ongoing legal issues.
For the past month, it has been known that AEW will be debuting a new Saturday night show on TNT called Collision with Punk expected to be a major part of it. The debut episode is coming next month on June 17th with the company likely to announce more details over the next week.
The new edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has revealed that AEW has a special name in mind for CM Punk’s AEW return as well as more info about the AEW TV situation.
“With that show will come a new deal with WBD, the announcement of the 6/17 debut date, believed to be at the United Center in Chicago, and the return of C.M. Punk on a show called ‘The Second Coming.'”
“Tony Khan already mentioned a big announcement and said it would be made next week ‘on TNT,’ meaning that the announcement, besides at the Upfronts, will be on TNT, prior to Dynamite that night on TBS. There are a lot of rumors going around regarding the new deal, from its length and its monetary value. Obviously if this is not just a deal for a second show at a similar rate and picking up the option year by WBD, which would end at the end of September 2024, it would be among the biggest news stories in wrestling of this decade.”
It has also been reported that CM Punk has expressed a desire to face former rival Samoa Joe in AEW, but it’s not known if the company will go through with that as a match. We will have to watch Collision to find out.
