AEW Hoping CM Punk Comments About Adam Page Aren’t Made Public
After CM Punk did an interview venting his frustrations, AEW is hoping negative comments toward Adam Page aren’t made public.
The AEW television return of CM Punk is scheduled to happen this Saturday, June 17th when the company’s new television show Collision premieres in Chicago, which is Punk’s hometown. Collision will air on TNT in the US live at 8 p.m. ET for two hours.
It was over one year ago at AEW’s Double or Nothing 2022 pay-per-view when CM Punk challenged “Hangman” Adam Page for the AEW World Title in Punk’s first attempt at becoming the AEW World Champion. Punk beat Page for the AEW World Title in that match, but Punk’s title reign was brief due to a foot injury suffered shortly after.
In the build up to that match, Hangman did a promo on AEW TV where he went off-script and said some things about Punk that were not well received.
Punk fired shots back at Hangman as well. At the press conference at AEW’s All Out pay-per-view in September 2022 when Punk ranted about many different topics, he also fired more shots at Page even though they hadn’t been part of the same storyline for several months.
To promote CM Punk’s return on Collision, the former two-time AEW World Champion did an interview with ESPN that will be released at some point today (Friday) and apparently, there is concern within AEW about some negative comments that Punk might have said in the interview.
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer wrote about how people within AEW don’t want Punk’s negative comments toward Page to be made public due in part to Page’s contract status.
“AEW was hoping that the comments Punk made about Adam Page would not be part of the article/video but the talent is largely aware of them.”
“This is largely because the company is actively trying to sign Page to a new long-term deal. There was an attempt at damage control going on at press time but much of the talent was aware of what Punk originally said.”
CM Punk will be in the main event of Collision this Saturday when he teams up with AEW Tag Team Champions FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) as the crowd favorites facing Bullet Club Gold’s Jay Whilte & Juice Robinson, along with the ROH TV Champion Samoa Joe.
Meanwhile, The Elite stable consisting of Kenny Omega, Adam Page, and The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) are not expected to appear on Collision.
