AEW Announcers Banned From Mentioning Ex-WWE Champion’s Name
An ex-WWE Champion’s recent return to AEW turned messy due to legal protocols.
After exiting the Stamford promotion on September 13, Andrade showed up on its rival promotion on October 1.
During the Dynamite taping, Kenny Omega was seen addressing the audience when the lights in the arena went out. When they came back on, a masked individual stood behind Omega, then revealed to be Andrade.
El Idolo attacked the Best Bout Machine before joining the Don Callis Family.
The Mexican superstar was expected to be featured in frontline segments, but faded without a trace, resulting in widespread speculations.
Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer revealed that the 35-year-old was not injured, but had breached his WWE non-compete clause, resulting in the company sending a letter to AEW.
WWE’s non-complete clause prevents any released wrestler from competing in another company for 90 days.
Meanwhile, Andrade also competed in the indies, winning The Crash Heavyweight Championship on October 3.
AEW Bans Announcers From Mentioning Andrade
The Wrestling Observer Newsletter has reported that AEW has banned its announcers from mentioning Andrade during commentary.
The promotion had been setting up a major storyline, but now its focus has shifted for the foreseeable future.
So AEW has dropped all mentioning of him on television and never followed up with his angle with Omega. After the angle shot on 10/1, the angle has never been acknowledged since by AEW. We were told the announcers were instructed not to mention his name or bring up the angle. [H/T: Ringside News]
Owing to the lawsuit, Andrade’s subsequent bookings have also been affected, with his October 25 main event match against LA Parka now canceled, too.
While the Florida promotion carries on pretending nothing ever happened, El Idolo’s fans continue to speculate about his return.
