Each and every week, the weird and wonderful world of professional wrestling never fails to captivate fans with a plethora of captivating stories that make their way into the news cycle.
Whether it’s shocking upsets, dramatic showdowns, or behind-the-scenes drama, the happenings within professional wrestling always keep fans on the edge of their seats.
Here are the Top Five Wrestling News Stories of the Week.
5. Alexa Bliss Teases WWE Return Ahead Of Royal Rumble
Alexa Bliss could be coming back to WWE soon based on what she posted on social media.
In a post on Instagram, Bliss posted a photo of herself with her doll Lilly.
This has led to speculation that Bliss could be involved with The Wyatt Sicks group due to her past with Wyatt. It’s also possible that Bliss could be on her own because she had a lot of success in the past on her own as well.
4. Top TNA Star Signs New Contract
One of the biggest names in TNA Wrestling has agreed to a new contract with the company.
Nic Nemeth has pledged his future to TNA. PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reports that Nemeth has signed an extension on his TNA deal. The deal he was on would have expired at the start of 2025, but Nemeth came to terms with the company on an extension. There’s no word yet on how long Nemeth’s deal with TNA is for.
3. WWE Creative Expecting Arrival Of AEW Star
An AEW star appears to be heading to WWE.
Malakai Black has been a notable absentee on AEW television and his recent omission from the House of Black’s storyline left many fans feeling Black won’t return.
Reporting in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reiterated that people backstage in AEW don’t expect Black to wrestle for the company again. The report added that there’s been talk within WWE creative regarding the star, hinting that it’s a matter of when and not if he will re-sign with the company.
There was also talk from WWE that he was expected there when his contract expires. That’s been the case for a while, but evidently there has been talk in WWE creative about him of late.
2. Major Kenny Omega Match Set For AEW All In: Texas
AEW is planning a huge match for Kenny Omega.
At Westle Dynasty, Kenny Omega returned to the ring for the first time in 13 months. In December 2023 the star was diagnosed with diverticulitis and it’s since been revealed that the illness almost cost him his life.
While discussing Omega’s comeback at Wrestle Dynasty in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer noted that the star is currently scheduled to face long-time rival Kazuchika Okada at All In: Texas on July 12th.
Meltzer added that Omega’s recent performance in Japan should put to bed any doubt about whether he can continue to wrestle at a high level.
Provided he can stay injury free, any questions on whether his long-awaited fifth match with Kazuchika Okada, right now set for 7/12 in Arlington, TX, could deliver at the level of one of the best (if arguably the best) in-ring series ever were alleviated. Whether they can match 2017 and 2018 is a big ask, but this Omega against last week’s Okada absolutely can put on a match of the year contender.
1. Big Money WWE Match Involving The Rock “Not Dead”
A huge match involving The Rock is still a possibility.
On the January 6th edition of Raw, The Rock made his return to WWE, but his wrestling future remains unclear.
The star opened the show and appeared to drop his “Final Boss” persona and praised Cody Rhodes at ringside. Rock later said Roman Reigns was the Original Tribal Chief before presenting him with the Ula Fala after Reigns defeated Solo Sikoa.
Many had expected Rock’s WrestleMania plans to become clear during the episode, but his actions only created more questions.
To add to the confusion, Rock appeared on NXT on January 7th and teased that he might go after Rhodes after all.
Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reiterated that The Rock vs. Cody Rhodes is off, but that doesn’t mean the Hollywood star won’t wrestle again in the future. He added that the often-discussed match between Rock and Roman Reigns could still happen.
The idea of Rock vs. Reigns we have been told by several is not dead and they still could go to that in the future, perhaps Mania but the idea of somewhere else, particularly with the crazy money some places are paying fighters, that could also be an option.
It’s up to him if he wants and has time to go through the training camp he feels is necessary to prepare himself at his age to do the match.
