The John Report: WWE Raw Deal 12/15/25 Review
It’s WWE Monday Night Raw, featuring The Usos facing The New Day, Stephanie Vaquer taking on Raquel Rodriguez, Rey Mysterio battling Logan Paul, and more.
The final match in John Cena’s incredible career took place at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event this past Saturday. Gunther beat Cena in the match by making Cena tap out to the dreaded Sleeper. A lot of people hated the finish because they wanted Cena to win, or they wanted Cena to lose by pinfall instead of tapping out, because Cena preached “Never Give Up” for decades, yet he lost his final match by giving up. I thought Cena would lose exactly how it happened, and while I know Triple H got booed by the fans, it wouldn’t surprise me if Cena had a major say in how his last match ended. Thank you, John Cena. He’ll be missed, but WWE moves on.
Tonight’s December 15th episode of WWE Monday Night Raw in Hershey, PA, will be a double-taping where the company will also tape the December 19th episode of SmackDown. At the December 19th SmackDown taping in Grand Rapids, MI, WWE will tape the December 22nd edition of Raw and the December 26th edition of SmackDown. WWE is taping Raw and SmackDown in advance to give talent and staff some time off around the Christmas holidays. Plus, there is a busy WWE live event schedule from December 26th to January 4th, with many wrestlers working every night for a week. I’ll probably read spoilers, but I’ll still review the show.
I have stayed busy over the last week, but I am writing with a heavy heart. A good friend named Ed Eastin Jr. passed away at 43 years old this past Monday night. We knew eachother for nearly 20 years, we became friends because of his love of pro wrestling, and he supported TJRWrestling as much as anybody. His death was a sudden, tragic thing, and he leaves behind a great teenage son named James, whom Ed loved dearly. Ed’s family has set up a GoFundMe to help James and others with the aftermath of Ed’s sudden passing. Thank you. Love you guys.
Lastly, before the review begins, the tentative posting day for my 17th Annual WWE Johnny Awards is December 26th. I’ll do my best to get it done by that date.
This is the Raw Deal for episode #1699 of Monday Night Raw. It’s taking place at the GIANT Center in Hershey, PA. Follow me on Twitter/X @johnreport. Let’s get to it.
The opening video package was about Saturday Night’s Main Event featuring John Cena’s final match against Gunther, which Gunther won. In the video package, they focused on Cena smiling at the end while showing some of his life’s journey as a wrestling fan and wrestler. Cena saluted the crowd, left his shoes and wrist bands in the ring, and left. No speech. I was hoping for a speech, but I assume Cena just felt like he didn’t need to say anything else. Great performance by Gunther and Cena. I know that not everybody liked how it was booked. I don’t think there was any way they could book it to please everyone.
Let’s Hear from Gunther
A triumphant Gunther made his entrance to huge boos from the crowd. Gunther was smiling and laughing because of how much the fans were booing him. There was a lot of booing. The announcers didn’t say anything as Gunther walked out there. Gunther went on the commentary table and was booed more. Gunther kept on posing in the ring as the fans booed him more. There were “You suck” chants, too. The fans chanted, “You tapped out” at Gunther, which he did do at WrestleMania back in April.
Gunther said that he said what he said he was going to do: “I made John Cena give up!” Gunther stared into a camera and said that when Cena gave up, he tapped out like a little bitch. Gunther left the ring at that point, but then he walked back into the ring to pose on a turnbuckle again. More boos. As Gunther nearly made it to the back, he went back to the ringside area again. Gunther went onto the commentary table again to soak in more boos. Gunther did another promo saying that he made John Cena tap out like a bitch. Gunther said it’s his time now, and he’ll forever be the man who made John Cena give up. The fans chanted, “You suck” again as Gunther left with a smile on his face.
Analysis: That’s some heel heat for Gunther, who was already a heel for several years, but now he might get that next-level heel heat because he beat John Cena in his final match and made him tap out. They could have had a babyface come out there to confront Gunther, but I think WWE wanted the focus to stay on Gunther, so that’s why there wasn’t a confrontation of any kind.
Gunther was shown walking in the backstage area. As he kept walking, Gunther saw Otis and Akira Tozawa. Otis said I bet you’re feeling good and Gunther said he does. Gunther saw R-Truth, who told Gunther he’s a piece of trash. Gunther said sure. Raw GM Adam Pearce asked if he was proud. Gunther said he’s very proud. Pearce said Gunther knows Cena is not coming back. Pearce told Gunther that doing that makes him an a**hole, and it wasn’t bleeped. Pearce said you’re done for tonight and find the exit. Gunther walked out of the building where he saw AJ Styles by his car. Gunther asked if there was anything you wanted to tell him. Styles just pointed at Gunther’s car. Gunther did Cena’s “You Can’t See Me” gesture to Styles. Ouch.
Analysis: That’s a possible tease of Gunther facing AJ Styles next year because Styles is going to retire in 2026, so Gunther might be the guy to retire him too. I think that was definitely a tease of that possibility.
The commentary team was Joe Tessitore and Wade Barrett. Alicia Taylor was the ring announcer.
There was some pre-show walking of The Vision’s Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, Logan Paul, and Paul Heyman. They showed Stephanie Vaquer, Ivy Nile with The Creed Brothers, and CM Punk.
A video aired about The Uso being back in the tag team division. They had a 622-day Tag Team Title reign, which is the record. The New Day was also shown in the video. They showed highlights of the history of both of those legendary teams.
The Usos made their entrance from the back part of their arena as Jey Uso’s music played, and it led to some Yeeting with the fans on their way to the ring. There was more Yeeting during a break for some fans, and The New Day made their entrance.

The Usos – Jimmy & Jey Uso vs. The New Day – Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods (w/Grayson Waller)
There was some offense from The Usos early on, but then Woods got a cheap shot on Jey while Woods was on the apron. The New Day took over from there as the show went to a break for some fans. Woods hit a leg drop on Jey on the apron for a two count. Woods set up Jey against the ropes and Waller punched Jey while the referee was distracted. Woods kicked Jey in the ribs to keep him down. Kofi tagged in with a double foot stomp on Jey’s arm. Kofi hit a running splash on Jey for a two count.
The match continued with Jey breaking free. Joe Tess said it was the first time these teams have met since November 2022. Jimmy worked over Kofi with kicks and punches. Jimmy hit a roundhouse kick to the head. Jimmy hit the running hip attack on Kofi against the turnbuckle. Woods and Waller distracted Jimmy, so Kofi punched Jimmy off the apron. Waller sent Jimmy into the ring post. Woods jumped off the apron with a clothesline on Jey on the floor. Woods and Kofi made quick tags as they stomped on Jimmy. Woods hit a dropkick on Jimmy for two. New Day set up Jimmy against the turnbuckle, but Jimmy avoided a Kofi charge and Kofi hit the ring post. Jey got the tag with some punches on Woods and a superkick. Woods left the ring, so Jey hit a suicide dive on him on the floor. Back in the ring, Jey jumped off the top with a cross body block on Woods for two. They went on another break for some fans, as I’ll take a break too.
It was New Day still in control with Jey as the face in peril. Jey hit some punches on Woods and then Waller tripped Jey. The referee, Rod Zapata, didn’t see it, but he figured it out and ejected Waller from the ringside. Jimmy made the tag for a double superkick on Woods, a double superkick on Kofi and another double superkick on Woods. The Usos went up top and hit top rope Uso Splashes on Woods for two. Poor Jimmy jumped onto the knees of Woods. Ouch. Kofi pulled Jey out of the ring and sent Jey into the steel steps. Woods rolled up Jimmy for two. Woods sent Jimmy out of the ring and hit a DDT on the floor. Woods hit a suicide dive on Jey on the floor. Kofi jumped off the top with a Frog Splash on Jimmy’s back. Woods jumped off the top with a double foot stomp while Kofi held Jimmy and it’s called Daylight for a two count because Jey made the save. Kofi was back in with Trouble in Paradise on Jey. Fans chanted “This is awesome” for them as all four guys were down. Jimmy broke free from a double team move and Jimmy hit two superkicks. Jey hit a Spear on Woods on the floor. Jimmy hit a Spear on Kofi in the ring. The Usos hit 1D on Kofi and Jey covered for the pinfall win after 18 minutes.
Winners by pinfall: The Usos – Jimmy & Jey Uso
Analysis: ***1/2 A very good tag team match by two legendary tag teams. That third sequence in the match was by far the best part, with some believable nearfalls on both sides. The Usos winning was the obvious result because it makes sense to give them a big win because they are back as a team. I could see The Usos winning the titles within a month or two.

Coming up on Raw on January 5th:
* CM Punk defends the World Heavyweight Title vs. Bron Breakker.
* Kabuki Warriors – Asuka & Kairi Sane defend the Women’s Tag Team Titles vs. Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky.
The Kabuki Warriors did a promo in Japanese while the translations were on screen. They talked about how Iyo Sky ruined this. Asuka said in English, they’ll beat Rhea and Iyo to retain their titles.
Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky were shown walking backstage for a segment up next.
Byron Saxton was in the upper deck to interview Intercontinental Champion & AAA Mega Champion Dominik Mysterio. Dominik said he feels fantastic about John Cena retiring since Dom was the last one to take a title from him. Dominik said he’s looking forward to Raquel Rodriguez getting a Women’s World Title match. When Saxton wished them luck, Dom said they didn’t need luck because they are champions.
A video aired to set up the Rey Mysterio-Logan Paul match based on last week’s Raw. They got into a brawl last week, and the Masked Man attacked Rey. Paul hit Rey with brass knuckles. LA Knight made the save to set up Paul against Knight. The Masked Man stomped Knight into the commentary table, and Paul won with a Frog Splash. The Vision attacked post match, including Bronson Reed hitting a Tsunami on Knight. Enjoy the break, Knight.
The Vision was in the locker room with Bronson Reed and Logan Paul, laughing about what happened last week. Bron Breakker said they took out LA Knight. Bron said that CM Punk is there. Logan mentioned the masked man and asked Paul Heyman who it was. Heyman said he had no idea. Bron spoke to Heyman privately, with Heyman telling Punk to wait until January 5th to face Punk and become the World Heavyweight Champion. Heyman left. Paul told Bron to lock in and help him get ready.
The WWE Unreal docuseries on Netflix will return for Season 2 on January 20th.
LA Knight’s status update was given by Wade Barrett. Wade said that Knight has a cracked sternum.
Analysis: Congrats LA Knight on the vacation. I could use one. The guy worked all year long and had more matches than any male wrestler this year, so he deserves a break. I assume he’ll be back next month.
Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky made their entrance. There was a surprise attack from the Kabuki Warriors because Asuka sprayed the dreaded green or blue mist into Rhea Ripley’s face. They beat up Sky as well. When Sky was able to get back into the ring, Sane jumped off the top with an Insane Elbow onto Sky’s back. Sky sold it like the most painful elbow drop ever because Sky is great like that. The indy wrestlers dressed as WWE Medical people tried to help, but did not actually do anything. Referee Jessika Carr helped Ripley to the back while the show went to a break for some fans.

Analysis: A quick segment to get some heat on the Kabuki Warriors for their match at the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Quick segment to get them on the show, and get some heat on the champs.
The WrestleMania 42 commercial aired. It is anyone’s game.
There was a replay of The Kabuki Warriors attacking Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky.

Women’s Intercontinental Championship: Maxxine Dupri vs. Ivy Nile
I don’t remember the last time Ivy Nile won a match to earn a title shot, but here we are because they used to be friends. Nile got in some strikes, but Dupri managed to apply an armbar by the ropes. Nile took control on the floor with a German Suplex. They went on a break for some fans as Nile took control. The fans were dead quiet as Nile hit a belly-to-back suplex for two. Dupri tried to fight back, but Nile kicked Dupri to the apron. The fans were still silent.
Nile tried a body slam, Dupri got out of it and Nile applied a submission headlock. Dupri countered with a headscissors reversal. Dupri hulked up with clotheslines, kicks, an elbow, and a backbreaker. Dupri hit a running splash and a bridging vertical suplex. Dupri went for a spin kick, Nile caught her and there was a sloppy Powerbomb for two. No reaction. Dupri countered a Nile move and hit a Powerbomb of her own. They went to the turnbuckle, where Nile applied a hanging Dragon Sleeper for a near five count. Nile dropkicked Dupri to the ribs. Dupri did the Drew McIntyre babyface spot, pulling up by the turnbuckle and slamming Nile down. Drew did that more as a babyface. Dupri jumped off the top with nothing, Nile avoided it and Nile got a rollup for two. Dupri applied an Ankle Lock, let go, and applied the Ankle Lock again. Dupri hit a spin kick to knock Nile down. Dupri applied the Ankle Lock with the heel hook on the mat and Nile tapped out. Dupri got the win after 11 minutes.
Winner by submission: Maxxine Dupri
Analysis: ** It was a way to show off how Maxxine Dupri has improved with more aggression and technical wrestling skills. I would have liked to see a spot or two where it looked like Ivy Nile might win because the match was lacking in that way. The fans didn’t care about the match. That shows how valuable Becky Lynch is because they reacted to Dupri’s matches against her.

A video aired about NXT Champion Oba Femi’s impressive showing against WWE Champion Cody Rhodes at Saturday Night’s Main Event in a match ruined by Drew McIntyre. NXT’s Sol Ruca beat Bayley at SNME, too. Joe Hendry showed up to help R-Truth beat up The Miz at SNME. Je’Von Evans and TNA’s Leon Slater lost to AJ Styles & Dragon Lee in a match that was too short for my liking, but it was damn good.
Je’Von Evans was backstage, where Raw GM Adam Pearce said that Evans got his attention. El Grande Americano and Los Americanos showed up to talk to Pearce. Kaiser/Americano spoke in Spanish decently. Rayo Americano stepped up to face Evans next week. That’s Pete Dunne in a mask.
Analysis: They are continuing to feature Je’Von Evans on the main roster. I assume he’ll get the NXT Championship early in 2026, but I think he’ll do just fine on the main roster.
Otis and Akira Tozawa were interviewed by Byron Saxton. This was during a break for some fans. Otis sucked up to the fans and talked about learning from John Cena. Otis said if Gunther doesn’t keep his mouth shut, then the Dozer is gonna shut it for you.

Let’s Hear from CM Punk
The World Champion CM Punk made his entrance to a big ovation. Punk was in serious mode. Punk said he was forced to miss two consecutive Raw’s because people smarter than him wouldn’t let him compete or fly. Punk said that WarGames hurt, but it wasn’t as painful as sitting home and listening to Bron talk. Punk called Bron a cross eyed neandarthal nepo baby. Punk said that Bron was mad that Punk tried to break his neck in WarGames. Punk trashed Bron’s family and said you signed up for war. Punk spoke about how Bron talked about how it was easy to beat Punk and he wanted a 2011 Punk, but he can’t handle a 2025 Punk. Punk talked about how Bron won in WarGames thanks to all the other guys on his team and the masked man. Punk said that you pinned Punk, but you didn’t do it alone.
Punk said that if he had a dime for every time he stood in the ring with a generational prospect and WrestleMania main eventer, then he’d have a lot of dimes. Punk said if you mention Punk’s wife again, then this goes from business to personal faster than you can run. Punk said he’ll rip the eyes out of his head and piss on his brain. There were “CM Punk” chants after that. Punk said he would tell Bron to show up alone on January 5th and test yourself. Punk said you don’t have the belief in yourself. Punk told Bron to bring Heyman, The Vision, your mystery man, call up your dumb father and dumber brother Scott, and bring them to Brooklyn. Punk said you’ll need all of them because you only have a snowball’s chance of winning this title. Punk kept on trashing the group. Punk said that all Bron will have left is his father and uncle, and even with Steiner math, a GTS means 1, 2, and 3. Punk said his name at the end of it and held up the World Title into the camera.
Analysis: It was a strong promo from CM Punk as usual, which is not a surprise from him as one of WWE’s best talkers. I liked the part about Bron mentioning Punk’s wife because Bron said he was going to take the World Title and maybe take AJ Lee, so it was nice to hear Punk have a strong response to that. I’m a bit surprised that there wasn’t an interruption, but that’s okay because Punk can handle a promo like that on his own.
The Judgment Day was shown in the locker room, with Dom saying he hopes that The Vision puts an end to his deadbeat dad, Rey Mysterio. Dom said that Finn is with JD, and JD will be out for a while. Raquel Rodriguez told Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez that she can handle Stephanie Vaquer on their own. Liv said that she and Perez are going to win the Women’s Tag Team Titles. Perez mentioned facing Bayley next week. Raquel said she’s so excited because The Judgment Day runs Raw.
Stephanie Vaquer made her entrance as the Women’s World Champion and was cheered. They went on a break as Raquel Rodriguez made her entrance.

WWE Women’s World Championship: Stephanie Vaquer vs. Raquel Rodriguez
The taller challenger, Raquel, hit a shoulder tackle to knock Vaquer down. Raquel worked over Orengo with punches. Vaquer took down Raquel with a rollup for two. Raquel countered Vaquer with a reverse vertical suplex for a two count. They went on a break for some fans as Raquel applied a chinlock.
Raquel grounded Vaquer by holding onto the arms. Vaquer broke free with punches and a headbutt. Vaquer hit the dragon screw leg whip. The fans weren’t reacting to much in the match. Vaquer countered a move and hit a belly to back suplex. Vaquer hit the Devil’s Kiss knee smash ten times in a row while Raquel smacked the mat every time. The fans reacted to that with cheers. Vaquer hit a running double knee attack on Raquel. Raquel hit a lariat to knock Vaquer down. Vaquer grabbed Raquel’s left arm and pulled Raquel out of the ring. Raquel sent Vaquer out of the ring. Nikki Bella showed up and threw Raquel into the ring post as payback for last week. It’s a DQ after about 8 minutes.
Winner by disqualification: Raquel Rodriguez (Stephanie Vaquer remains the Women’s World Champion)
Analysis: ** They could have had a great match, but it was cut short and never really got to that next level of excitement. Other than the Devil’s Kiss spot, the fans really didn’t get into it that much.
After the match, Nikki Bella attacked Stephanie Vaquer as well. Nikki sent Vaquer into the ring and hit the Rack Attack 2.0 in the ring. Nikki told Vaquer not to forget who she is.
Analysis: It was payback for Nikki because Raquel had attacked Nikki recently as well. I assume this sets up a triple threat match between the three women because that’s how WWE booking sets up those things.

Raw GM Adam Pearce was backstage with Paul Heyman. Pearce wanted to know who the masked man was. Heyman said Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Nick Aldis, even Bruno Sammartino and Heyman claimed he didn’t know. Pearce said he wanted him to let him know.
After Paul Heyman left, Rhea Ripley walked in and said she wanted to face Asuka. Pearce booked it for next week.
Rey Mysterio was walking backstage. CM Punk walked up to Rey, saying he had his back, and Rey thanked Punk for it.
A video package aired about John Cena and his incredible WWE career. This was during a break for some fans. It’s a great video.
The World Tag Team Champions, AJ Styles and Dragon Lee, were interviewed by Jackie Redmond. Styles said they are ready to defend the titles. Lee said that they’ll face any team at any time. Styles said they should go talk to Pearce right now. They left.
Nikki Bella walked in to talk to Jackie. Nikki said she’s none of these women appreciate the road she has paved in this business. Nikki said she’s a legend in this industry, while Stephanie and Raquel should be shining her boots.
Next week on Raw:
* Bayley vs. Roxanne Perez
* Je’Von Evans vs. Rayo
* Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka
That show will be taped on Friday, as I mentioned earlier.
There was a WrestleMania 42 commercial featuring Liv Morgan letting us know it’s anyone’s game.
Maxxine Dupri was backstage with Bayley, who hugged Dupri. Maxxine had some battle scars on her fingers, so she left to get that treated. Lyra Valkyria walked in, asking Bayley how she was doing. Bayley said she was thinking that maybe what Asuka said to her may have been true. Lyra said that’s not the Bayley she knows. Lyra said maybe Bayley is an idiot, so Bayley shoved Lyra and yelled at her about how she’d beat Perez next week. Bayley called Lyra an idiot. Bayley left.
Rey Mysterio made his entrance for the main event at the two-hour mark. Logan Paul made his entrance as well, joined by Paul Heyman. This was during a break for some fans.
Logan Paul (w/Paul Heyman) vs. Rey Mysterio
This is Logan’s third match since Wargames just over two weeks ago. Logan is wrestling more than ever. Logan locked up with Rey against the turnbuckle and Rey fought back with a slap to the face. Rey dropkicked Logan off the apron to the floor. Rey tripped up Logan into the ropes and Logan hit a big boot. Wade said 51-year-old Rey was moving better than ever. No. The man is 51, but I understand announcers like bullshitting like that. Anyway, Logan took over with punches. Logan sent Rey hard into the turnbuckle. Logan worked over Rey with more punches. Rey came back with a spinning headscissors. Logan pulled on Rey’s leg to knock him down. Rey got his knees up to block a moonsault by Logan. Rey hit a seated senton off the apron onto Paul on the floor. As they went to a break for some fans, Paul sent Rey into the turnbuckle to take over.
Logan remained in control with a running splash on Rey. Logan went for a top rope splash, but Rey avoided it and sent Logan into the ropes. Logan came back with a clothesline. Rey came back with a top rope hurricanrana for a two count. Rey and Logan exchanged strikes. Rey kicked Paul in the chest and went for a leaping move, but Logan caught him and hit a powerslam. Rey countered a move, he went for a 619 and Logan hit a kick to the ribs. Logan hit two vertical suplexes in a row. Logan taunted the fans with an Eddie Guerrero shake to piss off the fans. Rey fought back, did the shake and Rey hit a sunset flip Powerbomb off the top. Rey kicked Paul out of the ring, followed by a sliding splash onto Paul on the floor. Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed showed up in the aisle, so Punk attacked both of them with a steel chair to chase them backstage. Rey jumped on Logan’s back, leading to a crucifix pin for two. Rey jumped off the turnbuckle, Logan caught him and hit a reverse Powerbomb into the mat. Heyman put the brass knuckles on Logan’s right hand. The referee had no idea. Rey dropkicked Logan into the ropes, and Rey hit a 619 kick to the head. Rey grabbed the brass knuckles and there’s the Masked Man to hit the Stomp on Rey while the referee was looking at Heyman. Logan went up top with a Superstar Splash (Joe called it that) for the pinfall win after 15 minutes.
Winner by pinfall: Logan Paul
Analysis: ***1/4 I liked the match. They worked well together. Rey is at a point now where he’s going to lose most of his matches to put over the younger guys, so that’s what this match was. Logan benefited from Heyman’s distraction and the masked guy, so it was a cheap win. That Superstar Splash by Paul looks impressive because of the height he gets.
After the match, the hoodie mystery man stared at Logan from the apron, but CM Punk went down to the ring. The hooded man went up the aisle in the crowd. The hooded man revealed himself to be Austin Theory! Theory had a shorter haircut, and he had a beard. The fans reacted to it. Punk was on the turnbuckle and yelled at Theory from a distance. Bron went into the ring and hit Punk with a Spear. Bron warned Punk: “You ever talk about my family like that again, you will never stand on two feet ever again.”
Bron held up the World Heavyweight Title over a fallen Punk. Theory remained in the crowd while Bron and The Vision celebrated. End show.
THE MASKED MAN IS AUSTIN THEORY 😱 pic.twitter.com/0yvGrKVJEN
— WWE (@WWE) December 16, 2025
Analysis: There’s the mystery man reveal with Austin Theory making his return as we expected. Theory makes sense in the group as a guy in his late 20s and a bright future, but he wasn’t out there celebrating with Heyman and The Vision, so we’ll see how the story develops in the weeks ahead. Punk was focused on Theory, so then Breakker capitalized with a Spear and it’s a heel ending. It worked.
This week’s Raw had a runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes on Netflix.

Final Thoughts on WWE Raw
It was more of a below-average episode of Raw. It was less interesting than usual. It’s not an exciting time of year for WWE shows. When January comes, it’ll get better, but these final weeks of December are usually just average stuff. I rated the tag team match the highest, and then the main event was good, but it was a cheap finish. Other matches were cut short or just not that interesting.
The Gunther heat at the start was an effective segment. I liked CM Punk’s promo a lot, too. I’m glad that Austin Theory was the reveal of masked man, and I’m hoping it works out well for him.
This was probably one of the quieter crowds for a WWE show this year. I know it’s a slow time of year, but they were very quiet for some parts of the show.
