The John Report: AEW Dynamite 10/15/25 Review

AEW Dynamite October 15 Review

This week’s AEW Dynamite featured Jon Moxley face-to-face with Darby Allin and a lot of in-ring action.

Dynamite was back on Wednesday this week after being a Tuesday show last week. It’s a three-hour show with the last hour being Collision, so I’ll just post the results of that since I don’t review Collision. It’s the final Dynamite before WrestleDream this Saturday night, which I plan to review live. Thankfully, my Toronto Blue Jays will be off that night, so I’ll be free to do it.

I’m going to go with summary style for most of the show and then play-by-play for the main event.

This was AEW Dynamite episode #315 from the Cable Dahmer Arena in Kansas City, Missouri. Follow me on Twitter/X @johnreport. Let’s get to it.

It’s Wednesday night, and you know what that means. The commentary team was Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Bryan Danielson. Taz is out for a few weeks after having shoulder surgery. Best wishes to Taz.

They showed a replay of Kota Ibushi’s brutal injury on Collision, and he’s going to be out for a long time. Jack Perry also tried to convince Kenny Omega that they can work together since they have the same enemies. Omega said we’ll see.

Kris Statlander-Toni Storm Interview

The AEW Women’s World Champion, Kris Statlander, and Toni Storm were seated with Renee Paquette for an interview. They agreed to no physicality. Storm said that she is the title and she is dreaming of winning it back. Storm said if you are her murderer then so be it. Kris said that Storm has never been in the ring with somebody like her. Kris said that she’s already different than who she was at All Out. Kris said she was deserving of this title, and she’ll give Storm the rest she deserves. Storm said at WrestleDream, we’ll find out the truth. Kris said that you know the truth and you just have to accept it. Kris asked if the interview was over, Renee said yes, so Storm told Kris to meet her in the ring.

Toni Storm and Kris Statlander went out to the ring and exchanged punches. Storm hit a Thesz Press along with punches. Kris hit an Angle Slam. Storm came back with a German Suplex. Storm kissed Kris on the forehead and left.

Analysis: That was a good interaction to build up the Kris-Toni match at WrestleDream. It should be a very good match, and I think Kris will keep the title.

Jurassic Express was backstage with Jack Perry, talking to the camera. Jack said he didn’t hate them and he loved them, so he’ll be grateful for them. Jack said when he needed them most, they didn’t pick up the phone or have his back. Jack looked into his past to find somebody who would, so Luchasaurus did some grunting to end it.

Gates of Agony – Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona (w/Ricochet) vs. The Hurt Syndicate – Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin (w/MVP)

Shelton was in control early with a suplex on Kaun, and Lashley tagged in with a shoulder tackle. Lashley hit a neckbreaker. After Toa made the tag, Kaun kicked the ropes to low blow Lashley and Toa hit a Samoan Drop on the floor. They went to a picture-in-picture break as my feed on TSN went to a break.

(Commercial)

Toa was in control of Lashley until Lashley hit a belly-to-belly suplex across the ring. Shelton got the hot tag against Kaun, leading to a splash and a spinning kick to the head. Shelton hit a knee smash on Ricochet to knock him off the apron. Toa no-sold a DDT from Shelton because he’s Samoan and you can’t drop a Samoan on their head in wrestling. Lashley and Toa did a double clothesline spot on the floor. MVP’s cane was in the ring, so Ricochet hit a Spirit Gun lariat on Shelton and Kaun covered for the three count. GOA wins at 10 minutes.

Winners by pinfall: Gates of Agony – Bishop Kaun & Toa Liona

Analysis: **3/4 A solid TV match. It didn’t excite me much, but I thought the finish was well done. This was only the second loss of Lashley and Benjamin, so it was a bit of an upset and a big win by GOA, thanks to Ricochet. I still think Ricochet doing a clothesline is a weak finisher, yet Shelton had to sell it like it was some killer move.

After the match, MVP hit Bishop Kaun with a cane to the back. At WrestleDream, The Demand will face The Hurt Syndicate in a trios match.

A clip was shown of Darby Allin attacking Jon Moxley at New York Comic Con. They got into a fight that was quickly broken up.

Jon Moxley and Darby Allin Face to Face

There was a video of Jon Moxley facing Darby Allin earlier in the day in an undisclosed location. It looked like it was a prison where they spoke to eachother behind glass. Moxley said let’s make sure we understand the implications of an I Quit Match. Moxley said in Toronto, there was zero chance that Allin would put him in a coffin. Moxley said that Allin will never quit and Moxley will never quit, so what will they do? Moxley asked what he wants to do and how this is going to end. Moxley said if you want to be on the right side of history, it is never too late. Allin said there’s not a day that goes by that he thinks about joining the Death Riders. Allin said that it’s all about Moxley, and he doesn’t respect him. Allin said that his is about Danielson and what Moxley did to him. Allin said he stabbed Danielson in the back. Moxley claimed he did the best he could for Danielson. Moxley said that sacrifices have to be made and hard decisions have to be made. Moxley told Allin that he doesn’t know what sacrifice is. Allin said that when he was on top of Mount Everest, he held the AEW flag to show that AEW represents freedom. Allin said he’s going to hang the flag in his house to remind himself of everything AEW gives him. Allin said he’s going to wrap it around Mox’s throat. Allin said that when Moxley quits, the Death Riders will realize that Moxley’s words don’t mean a thing, and his operation will come crumbling down. Moxley said he has never lied to Allin. Moxley said that Allin is fighting ghosts and spirits of the past. Moxley claimed he has fought a lot of ghosts and it has never ended well. Moxley told him it’s a selfish game and he is not selfish. Moxley said that this is not about him.

Pac attacked Allin from behind and knocked him down. Pac rammed Allin into the walls of the room they were in. Pac threw Allin into the glass in the room and it looked like there was blood. Moxley sat on the other side of the glass without saying anything. Jon Moxley was shown exiting the room he was in.

Analysis: That was a compelling segment. I liked it a lot. Doing it in the ring would be fine, of course, but choosing a different setting where they speak to eachother behind glass is a unique way of having each guy make their points. Both men say they won’t quit and never would quit, yet we saw Moxley essentially quit at All In against Hangman when he lost the AEW World Title. It wasn’t an I Quit Match like Moxley/Allin will have at WrestleDream, but the match ended when Moxley quit the match. Anyway, this was terrific overall and it’s a hard match to predict at WrestleDream.

The Death Riders trio of Jon Moxley, Pac, and Marina Shafir were shown outside the building. They were walking into the building.

Claudio Castagnoli vs. Roderick Strong

They were exchanging holds early on, and then Claudio hit a boot to the face to knock Strong down. When Strong tried a dive onto Claudio on the floor, Claudio caught him and swung him into the barricade.

(Commercial)

The match returned with Strong hitting a dropkick. Claudio came back with a stiff clothesline that was only good for a two count. Strong got some offense going after Claudio missed a boot, so Strong shoved him out of the ring. Strong kicked Claudio into the barricade and a backbreaker onto the top of the barricade. They battled by the turnbuckle, where Strong hit a backbreaker on Claudio onto the turnbuckle. Strong charged, Claudio caught him and hit a European Uppercut for the pinfall win. That was a sudden finish. It went about 12 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Claudio Castagnoli

Analysis: *** A solid TV match between two veteran wrestlers. That was a decisive ending with Claudio hitting the uppercut for the easy win. I can’t remember the last time Claudio had a meaningful singles feud in AEW. They use him as a member of the Death Riders, and he doesn’t do much else. Strong is just a veteran wrestler who wins sometimes over other midcarders, but most of the time, he’s there to put over other people.

Don Callis was shown in a restaurant celebrating a birthday with the Don Callis Family. Callis told his guys he is there for them every day. Callis said they have a growing family because of power and to protect everybody in the group. Kyle Fletcher had a video message from Konosuke Takeshita, who said that Don has done so much for his career and now Takeshita is the IWGP World Champion for him and the Don Callis Family. Kazuchika Okada used a remote to stop it. Callis toasted to family and they all had drinks.

A video aired about Konosuke Takeshita winning the IWGP World Title from Zack Sabre Jr., so Takeshita won the top prize in New Japan Pro Wrestling. Takeshita hit a running knee to win.

Analysis: Takeshita is awesome. Good for him winning the IWGP World Title. I don’t watch NJPW anymore, but that’s still cool to see for him.

Kenny Omega & Jurassic Express – “Jungle” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus vs. Don Callis Family – Josh Alexander, Mark Davis & Hechicero

Callis did a big introduction for his three guys, who obviously have no chance to win this match. Omega battled Hechicero early on as Hechicero worked over Omega’s leg. Omega came back by sending Hechicero out of the ring and he hit a slingshot dive onto Hechicero on the floor. Omega hit a running neckbreaker on Josh and Perry got the tag. Luchasaurus tagged in with a clothesline. Perry tagged back in with a senton bomb on Josh for two. The powerhouse Davis tagged in and hit a shoulderblock on Perry leading to a break.

(Commercial)

Josh applied an Ankle Lock on Jack as the heels remained in control. When Jack broke free with an enziguri kick, Omega had to think about whether he wanted to make the tag. Omega hit a rolling senton on Josh and a moonsault off the middle turnbuckle. Josh regained control with two German Suplexes. Omega hit a knee to the back and a V-Trigger knee to the face for two because Josh grabbed the bottom rope. Luchasaurus and Dave tagged in to do a running double clothesline spot. Jack hit a jumping DDT on Josh and Hechicero hit a spinning backbreaker. Omega hit a knee on Hechicero, Davis punched Omega and Luchasaurus headbutted Davis. Callis distracted Omega, so Josh hit a chop block to Omega. Davis ran the ropes, Perry pushed Omega out of the way and Davis clotheslined Perry instead. Davis hit a jumping kick and a piledriver on Omega for two. Luchasaurus gave Josh a Chokeslam onto Hechicero, who had Omega grounded in an armbar. Luchasaurus had Hechicero, the legal man, on his shoulders and Jack jumped off the top with a Doomsday Device clothesline for the pinfall win. It went about 12 minutes.

Winners by pinfall: Kenny Omega & Jurassic Express – “Jungle” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus

Analysis: ***1/2 It was an entertaining match, even with a predictable result. At least it featured a story about whether Omega could trust Perry. The key spot was Perry shoving Omega out of the way to save Omega from a move by Davis. There was a lot of fast-paced action in the second half of the match, and even though there was some illegal offense, it wasn’t as bad as some AEW matches. Omega is so great and I love to watch it, but I also feel like he should be involved in bigger stories in AEW.

After the match, The Young Bucks went into the ring to knock Luchasaurus out of the ring. The Bucks hit a double superkick on Perry. The Bucks wanted to do more, but Omega saved Perry. Luchasaurus hit a double lariat on the Bucks. Perry jumped off the top rope and hit a moonsault onto the Callis Family and the Bucks on the floor.

Analysis: It’s the Young Bucks against Jurassic Express at WrestleDream, so it made sense for the Bucks to get out there. Omega did the right thing, helping Jurassic Express, even though he still doesn’t fully trust Perry.

Jamie Hayter vs. Skye Blue (w/Julia Hart)

It’s Hayter against Thekla at WrestleDream, so you know who is winning this match. Hayter worked over Blue with safe punches, so Bryan tried to say that they were to the back of the head, which is susceptible to more impact. In reality, Hayter was gently touching Blue with the punches. Hayter hit a suplex, so Blue bailed to the floor with Hart. After a distraction from Hart, Blue hit a neckbreaker off the apron to the floor.

(Commercial)

Hayter got some offense with a backdrop suplex. They hit some counter moves, then each woman connected with kicks and Hayter hit a backbreaker. Blue kicked Hayter while on the apron. Hayter went to the floor, caught Blue and hit a fallaway slam on the floor. Hayter hit a running lariat for two. Blue hit a Sliced Bread neckbreaker for two. Blue ran the ropes, Hayter hit a lariat and a Hayterade short arm lariat for the pinfall win after 12 minutes.

Winner by pinfall: Jamie Hayter

Analysis: ***1/4 A solid TV match that was given plenty of time. Blue got more offense than I expected, but that’s fine because she’s a star on the rise and has a bright future. Hayter’s win was the obvious result since she’s in a match at WrestleDream, so it gives her positive momentum.

Thekla appeared on the video screen. She said she was misunderstood in Europe, kicked out of Japan, and she’s not impressed. Thekla said that Hayter was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Thekla said her name means poison and on Saturday, it’s going to get toxic to the core. Thekla told Hayter to impress her.

Analysis: It was…a promo. Not great. Not bad. Just kind of there.

Mercedes Mone was backstage with her TBS Title, and she was 10 Belts Mone, and she said she is Ultimo Mone. Renee Paquette spoke about how she beat Ultimo Dragon’s record for title belts. They mentioned Mone will be champion for 509 days, so she’s the longest reigning TBS Champion of all time. Mone did her annoying laugh to celebrate.

Analysis: It was not a surprise that Mercedes Mone would be the longest reigning TBS Champion to break the record of Jade Cargill, who works for WWE.

The AEW World Champion “Hangman” Adam Page joined commentary for the Dynamite main event.

AEW Trios Championships: The Opps – Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata vs.La Faccion Ingobernable – Rush, Dralistico & The Beast Mortos (w/Sammy Guevara)

Hobbs and Mortos did a running shoulder tackle collision spot. Hobbs splashed Mortos against the turnbuckle, followed by repeated clotheslines. Mortos hit a boot to the face and a Slingblade neckbreaker. Hobbs hit another shoulder tackle. Shibata tagged in against Rush, which saw Shibata hit repeated elbows. Rush chopped Shibata repeatedly and each guy hit German Suplexes. Shibata did a STO trip on Rush. Joe tagged himself in and worked over Mortos with strikes. Joe sent Mortos into the turnbuckle, followed by a jumping kick to the head. Shibata was back in and hit a running boot on Rush. The three LFI guys went into the ring to attack Shibata. Mortos slapped Shibata. Rush was back in with a kick on Shibata’s left arm. The three LFI guys all hit corner attacks on Shibata and LFI hit a triple dropkick on Shibata.

(Commercial)

LFI was still in control as Dralistico worked over Shibata with hard chops to the chest. Shibata was back up with a running kick to the head. Shibata hit a running dropkick on Dralistico. Shibata hit a double underhook suplex for two. Hobbs was back in with a boot to the face and two clotheslines. Rush got the boot up on Hobbs, but Hobbs hit a double clothesline. Hobbs hit a World’s Strongest Slam that Excalibur called the World’s Most Dangerous Slam. Joe tagged in with an atomic drop and a senton splash. Joe hit a snap powerslam on Dralistico for two. Rush and Mortos went into the ring illegally to stop Joe. Shibata cleared them from the ring. Dralistico hit a corkscrew kick to Joe’s head. Dralistico jumped off the top, Joe grabbed him and applied the Coquina Clutch submission. Dralistico passed out to give Joe the win for his team. It went 11 minutes.

Winners by submission: The Opps – Samoa Joe, Powerhouse Hobbs & Katsuyori Shibata

Analysis: ***1/4 It was the right way to book the match with Joe looking strong for his team by getting the decisive win. Dralistico doesn’t win much, so of course, he took the loss for the team. Predictable AEW booking as usual.

After the match, LFI attacked The Opps, and Rush spat at Hangman Page, so Page got involved. Page made the save with punches, clotheslines, and kicks. Rush sent Page to the apron, and Guevara pulled Rush out of the ring to save him from a Buckshot Lariat. Samoa Joe picked up the AEW World Title and stared at Hangman. Joe put it against Page’s chest, and Joe left.

Analysis: I think Hangman beating Joe is a lock at WrestleDream in what should be a good, competitive match.

That was the end of Dynamite.

Final Thoughts on AEW Dynamite

It felt like more of the same on Dynamite. The TV matches of late have been good and sometimes very good, but not necessarily great. I find Dynamite to be a solid TV show most of the time, although I rarely feel like it’s some amazing wrestling show. Maybe the diehard AEW fans who love everything the company does will disagree with me. It just doesn’t feel that interesting or exciting most weeks. Considering the WrestleDream PPV is this Saturday, I get why you don’t have any standout matches on TV because they’re coming at the PPV.

I thought they did a nice job of building the WrestleDream matches. The Jon Moxley/Darby Allin segment was very effective, and I liked the Storm/Statlander parts as well. They tried to touch on everything else as well.

A clothesline ended three matches on this show, with Jamie Hayter, Jack Perry (off the top), and Ricochet (doing a cheap attack) winning matches right after clotheslines. Claudio Castagnoli also won with an uppercut. It feels repetitive when you see the same move winning so many matches. Just saying.

The next AEW PPV is WrestleDream on Saturday, October 18th, with this lineup so far.

* AEW World Championship: “Hangman” Adam Page (c) vs. Samoa Joe

* AEW Women’s World Championship: Kris Statlander (c) vs. Toni Storm

* I Quit Match: Darby Allin vs. Jon Moxley

* AEW Tag Team Championships: Brodido – Brody King & Bandido (c) vs. Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita

* TNT Championship: Kyle Fletcher (c) vs. Mark Briscoe

* $500K Match: The Young Bucks – Matt & Nick Jackson vs. Jurassic Express – “Jungle” Jack Perry & Luchasaurus

* Tornado Trios Match: The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin, and MVP) vs. The Demand (Ricochet, Bishop Kaun, and Toa Liona)

* Jamie Hayter vs. Thekla
