WWE’s Original Plans For DIY’s Reunion Nixed

WWE DIY

There were plans for Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano to reunite earlier in the year.

As reported by Fightful Select, there were plans as far back in the summer to reform DIY on the main roster, but this was one of the multiple creative plans nixed.

The original plan was set to be in motion back on June 19th where a returning Ciampa would answer an open challenge issued by World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins. However, the full match was never intended to take place as The Judgment Day were due to storm to the ring and effectively render the title match a no contest.

It was at this point that a returning Johnny Gargano, who would have made the appearance in his hometown of Cleveland, would come to the aid of Ciampa and reform the NXT faction. The reason why the reunion did not happen until October 2nd is because “plans began to change heavily,” which ultimately left many “frustrated” by the sudden changes.

DIY are former NXT Tag Team Champions, defeating The Revival in a 2 out of 3 falls match at TakeOver Toronto to capture the titles.

Why Was The DIY Reunion Delayed In WWE?

With Johnny Wrestling absent from TV for a number of months, it was suspected that the former NXT Champion was taking time off to heal from an injury. However, Fightful Select has debunked these claims by revealing that Gargano has been cleared to compete since April.

Those who have attended the non-televised events at the weekends would have seen Gargano in action, with his opponent being The Nigerian Giant Omos. Gargano’s first match back at the house shows was in July.
