WWE’s Cody Rhodes Named Male Wrestler Of The Year

Cody Rhodes

Cody Rhodes beat off competition from Roman Reigns and two AEW stars to be named Wrestler of the Year.

Despite not winning the World Championship and losing out to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, Cody Rhodes has been named Male Wrestler of the Year by ESPN.

The publication cited Rhodes’ Royal Rumble win following a serious pectoral injury and rivalry with Brock Lesnar as well as Reigns for their decision.

Reigns, Will Ospreay, and AEW World Champion MJF were named as group runners-up.

Elsewhere, Rhea Ripley was named Female Wrestler of the Year, FTR scooped Tag Team of the Year, CM Punk’s WWE return was awarded Debut of the Year, and WrestleMania 39 scooped Best PPV Event.

Cody Rhodes’ WWE Contract Status Remains Unclear

In the lead-up to Christmas, it was reported that WWE was interested in signing Cody Rhodes to a new long-term deal. It’s believed that the American Nightmare’s current contract runs until 2025.

However, this was disputed by a different report which noted Cody Rhodes had actually signed a contract back in October. However, this report was also disputed, with the latest update commenting that the original offer was made to Rhodes in October, but it wasn’t signed at that point. But, a contract is expected to be signed, as an agreement is already in place.
