Rumor Killer Regarding WWE WrestleMania 42 Location After US Politician Comments

WWE WrestleMania 40 set

An American politician got wrestling fans worked after posting a video teasing a WWE WrestleMania 42 location, but it has since been deleted.

The 40th edition of WWE WrestleMania took place over two nights in April 2024 at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field and it was a very successful event. There were massive crowds on both nights, a lot of tourists in town to attend all the events, and a satisfying ending with Cody Rhodes leaving WrestleMania as the Undisputed WWE Champion.

Could WWE go back to Philadelphia again in just two years? Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro posted a Q&A video posted to his X/Twitter account talking about the big events that will take place in Philadelphia in 2026, which is the 250th birthday of the United States of America. In the video, Shapiro talked about sporting events and said WrestleMania, which led wrestling fans to think that WrestleMania 42 in 2026 is going back to Philadelphia. Here’s what Shapiro said.

“So get this, in Philly, we’ve got the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, we got the FIFA World Cup, we got WrestleMania, we got a little golf action, the PGA Championship and if you go over to Pittsburgh, we’ve got the NFL Draft and a lot more cool stuff happening all across Pennsylvania in the year 2026 for USA 250.”

That tweet and video posted by Shapiro have since been deleted.

It was reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that sources within World Wrestling Entertainment claim that “no deal for 2026 has been locked in as of this AM for the company’s flagship weekend.”

It’s not known yet why Governor Shapiro specifically said WrestleMania.

In an update from Fightful Select, they received this statement about what Governor Shapiro said.

“This statement was mistaken, and we apologize for the confusion amid all the incredible events Pennsylvania is excited to host in 2026. While WrestleMania won’t be here in ‘26, we look forward to continuing to work with WWE and wrestling fans all across our Commonwealth to bring more great events to PA in the future.”

As we already know, WWE WrestleMania 41 is taking place in Las Vegas on April 19 & 20, 2025, which is also Easter weekend.

WWE WrestleMania 42 Could Be In A City That Already Hosted WrestleMania

The Twitter/X account Wrestlevotes responded to the WrestleMania 42 in Philadelphia rumor by reporting that WWE isn’t ready to make an announcement yet. However, they did mention that the location of WM42 could be a repeat location.

Regarding the WrestleMania 42/Philadelphia rumors, I am told through a source that WWE is not ready to make any official announcement yet. Here’s what we can add:

WWE had an excellent experience with the city of Philadelphia for WMXL, regardless of the weather, and would be interested in having the city host again.

The location for WM42 was “supposedly” decided on months ago and was off the table for Minneapolis when WM41 was pulled from them. I’m not sure that aligns with WM42 and Philly.

We have heard of a location for WM42 but haven’t released any info, as the internal chatter on that died down quickly. If it turns out to be true, it would be a repeat location…

This could also be a case of the governor using “WrestleMania” as a broad term, meaning a large WWE event, rather than the actual WrestleMania PLE.

Lots of moving parts here. In addition, it seems as the original video of the statement has been pulled down.

For now, the WrestleMania 42 for 2026 is not officially known no matter what the Governor of Pennsylvania posted on social media before deciding to take it down.
