WWE Veteran Told Kofi Kingston “You’re Wasting Your Career” With New Day

One WWE legend thought Kofi Kingston was throwing his career away by joining Big E and Xavier Woods in The New Day.

Kofi Kingston was already a three-time WWE Tag Team Champion, three-time US Champion, and four-time Intercontinental Champion before he threw his lot in with relative newcomers to the roster Xavier Woods and Big E to form The New Day in 2014.

The trio got off to a rocky start together with fans not taking to the group at all which prompted a heel turn for the trio and that’s when things began to click. Since then The New Day has become one of the most successful tag teams in WWE history and at one point boasted the longest reign as WWE Tag Team Champions.

During his time in the group was also when Kofi Kingston reached the pinnacle of his career when he captured the WWE Championship at WrestleMania 35.

Kofi Kingston warned he was wasting his WWE career by Paul Wight

Speaking on the Undrafted Allstarz Sports Show, Big E recalled current AEW star Paul Wight not being a fan of Kingston being a part of the upstart group and warned Kingston he was wasting his time in The New Day:

“We had like Big Show was pulling Kofi aside, ‘What are you doing with those two? You’re wasting your career.’ He came back later and apologized. Because sometimes people don’t see the vision. They don’t see what you see, they don’t understand that.”

Big E remains out of action after suffering a serious neck injury in 2022 leaving Kingston and Woods to stick together as a duo for the time being. The New Day has not held main roster tag team gold since 2021 so there is no doubt they’ll hope to have The Judgment Day in their sights before too much longer.
