WWE Upset Over Released Star’s Recent Revelation
A former WWE star’s recent comments about wages have not sat well with the company.
Speaking to Denise Salcedo during an interview, Priscilla Kelly (fka Gigi Dolin) detailed the misconceptions surrounding developmental salaries.
She addressed speculations about wrestlers in the Stamford promotion, especially the NXT brand, being millionaires, revealing that they were far from the truth.
The common misconception, especially about NXT performers, is that we’re millionaires. A lot of our fans, for some reason, think that if you work in WWE and you’re under that umbrella, you’re a millionaire. You live in a mansion, you’re driving a Benz, you’ve got it made.
That’s not the case. In NXT, there’s contracts as low as $30,000 a year, and they do not go as high as you think.
The 28-year-old wrestler, who currently makes appearances in the indies, also went on to reveal that she is much better off now.
With all my work, all of the bookings I’ve been taking, I arguably think that I actually make more than I made in NXT now.
Why WWE Feels Rattled By Priscilla Kelly’s Comments
During a recent episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez touched upon Priscilla Kelly’s comments.
According to him, the company’s higher-ups had a legitimate reason to feel the way they did because Kelly’s comments did not portray the truth, and the figures were much higher than what she claimed.
She mentioned that people made as little as $30,000 and, man, people in WWE were not happy with that interview, because nobody is making $30,000 in NXT.
The NXT deals start at $75,000. So if you’re on television wrestling on NXT television as a contracted performer, you’re making at minimum $75,000. Now, if you are a Jordynne Grace or a Ricky Saints or whoever, you’re obviously going to be making more than that.
Nobody is making $30,000, but at the same time, the WWE ID talent – nobody is making close to $30,000. They’re making significantly less because essentially the contracts are [that] we have the right to match any offer. [H/T: Wrestlingnews.co]
