Another Ex-WWE Star Making More Money Since Leaving Company
A former WWE Superstar is thriving after leaving the company.
WWE contracts have been a huge talking point in recent months, since Jazmyn Nyx revealed that she turned down a new deal to remain in NXT as it didn’t make financial sense.
More recently, Ridge Holland’s comments about not being able to pay his mortgage after WWE decided against renewing his contract have also sparked a huge conversation. This saw Scarlett Bordeaux publicly reveal that she and Karrion Kross are now making more money since leaving the company.
During an interview with Denise Salcedo, former WWE Superstar Prescilla Kelly, formerly known as Gigi Dolin, reflected on her own experience of working with the sports entertainment giant. This included setting the record straight on just how much NXT stars are earning and the difficulty in covering their day-to-day costs.
“The common misconception, especially about NXT performers, is that we’re millionaires. A lot of our fans for some reason think that if you work in WWE and you’re under that umbrella, you’re a millionaire. You live in a mansion, you’re driving a Benz, you’ve got it made.
That’s not the case. In NXT, there’s contracts as low as $30,000 a year and they do not go as high as you think. You have to live in Florida, which is very expensive.
Going out to eat just for two people can run you a hundred plus bucks because everything is marked up for tourism and Florida’s just a hot bed for people. Having to pay for new gear all the time and all these expenses, taking care of your body and getting all these little things, it all adds up.
At the end of the day, especially because you can’t make money outside of what you make in WWE, you don’t make a lot. I think the common misconception is that we’re just all just rich and rolling in money and that’s just not the case.
Even main roster talent, of course there’s people on the main roster that are making the really big big bucks but that’s a small percentage. A lot of people that are up there, they make good money but they also pay for every hotel, they’re paying for all their travel and all the food, everything they need on top of the other expenses of gear and taking care of your body and taking care of your sanity.
Especially with a lot of things that have been going on online lately, I think everybody needs to take a step back and realize that if you don’t know what you’re talking about, a lot of you need to shut the f*ck up because you don’t know what people are going through, you don’t know what people make. I think everyone just needs to stop assuming they know everything because they don’t.”
Priscilla Kelly Better Off After Leaving WWE
Kelly added that even after signing with WWE, she kept her Amazon wishlist active, meaning fans could buy her certain items if they wanted to send a specific gift. However, this led to even more backlash online, with some wrongly claiming the star was a “millionaire” and, as such, shouldn’t need fans to send gifts.
I used to get backlash, the one thing WWE was cool with was you could have an Amazon wish list where you have things you want. It could be like stuff like massage tubs or clothes, whatever.
I’ve had a wish list since my time on the indies because some fans like to gift people stuff, it’s just a cool thing they like to do to show support. It’s cool of them, if there’s somebody that I looked up to and I wanted to gift them something, I would do the same.
But the fans would get really mad and be like, ‘Why do you have a wish list when you’re a millionaire.’ I don’t have a wish list because I need people to buy me stuff, I have that because it’s just a way for people to show support if they want to. But also, I’m not a millionaire.”
In closing, Kelly noted that she’s likely earning more money since returning to the independent circuit than she was while with NXT.
“But, with all of that being said, I actually think with the amount I work — because I’ve always been a hustler during the independents, I’ve always been a person that works my ass off and hustles and tries to capitalize wherever I can. With all my work, all of the bookings I’ve been taking, I arguably think that I actually make more than I made in NXT now.”
Priscilla Kelly will be in action on November 20 at the MLW x Don Gato Live Wrestling Special in Charleston, South Carolina. At the event, she’s set to face another former WWE Superstar, Shotzi Blackheart.
