WWE Title Moving To NXT

WWE Triple H Shawn Michaels

One WWE title thought to have been abandoned is finding a new home in NXT.

On August 1, it was reported that WWE Speed had been quietly dropped by the company.

WWE Speed was first announced in February 2024 in partnership with social media platform X to great fanfare. Two months later, the show debuted with a tournament to decide the first-ever Speed Champion.

A women’s tournament subsequently followed, and the inaugural champion was crowned in October.

However, no new episodes have been uploaded to the platform since July 9, putting its future well and truly in doubt. At present, the men’s Speed Championship is held by El Grande Americano, and the women’s title is held by Sol Ruca. Sol Ruca recently admitted her title could be dropped, but now that doesn’t look like it will be the case.

WWE Speed Coming To NXT

Sol Ruca has been parading her WWE Speed Title on NXT in recent weeks, and now WWE has announced that the title will be defended on NXT television. A tournament to find a number one contender for the gold will begin on the September 2nd edition of NXT and will include talent from TNA and AAA, as well as the NXT roster.

The winner of the tournament will challenge Sol Ruca for the WWE Speed Championship at NXT No Mercy on September 27th.

There was no mention of the men’s WWE Speed Title or when El Grande Americano would be defending that championship again. Chad Gable is currently out of action due to injury, but in his absence, Ludwig Kaiser has taken over the masked El Grande Americano role.
