“I Felt Scared” – Why WWE Threatened To Fire Natalya
Natalya’s book, The Last Hart Beating, hit the shelves recently.
It is being praised for its unwavering honesty about her representation of the legendary Hart family and her role as the longest-serving female wrestler in WWE’s history.
The book also touches upon the injury suffered by her husband, TJ Wilson, in 2015, which prematurely ended his in-ring career.
Wilson, wrestling as Tyson Kidd, was featured in a dark match on Superstars against Samoa Joe, during which he suffered a life-threatening neck injury after taking a Muscle Buster from his opponent.
The Canadian superstar goes on to detail the subsequent events and WWE’s mishandling of Wilson’s injury, an incident that had remained unknown to wrestling fans.
Natalya Reveals That WWE Threatened To Fire Her
Natalya is a future Hall of Famer, but her stint has not been devoid of personal challenges, something the likes of Bret “The Hitman” Hart and Owen Wilson, too, had to endure.
Recalling her husband’s injury, she writes:
Back home, TJ was still recovering from his surgery, and even though it had been nine months since he was injured, he still hadn’t heard anything from WWE or Vince about any kind of restitution for his injury.
She claims that while TJ was not looking to sue the company, he did accept an acknowledgement from Vince McMahon about his injury.
“All I want is an apology,” TJ told his lawyer.“
That absolutely won’t happen,” his lawyer replied, “because that would be admitting fault.”
As a result, Wilson wrote McMahon a letter detailing the seriousness of his condition.
TJ said he wasn’t okay with what had happened… he stated in the letter that he wanted to put it all in writing in case Vince wasn’t aware. He couldn’t even move his head, and Vince hadn’t reached out a single time to check if he was okay.
Natalya writes that they received a response a month later, not from Vince, but the company’s legal team, which left them shocked and reeling.
Their account of what happened was completely different than TJ’s. They denied everything and finished by saying that if I talked about TJ’s injury at work or disparaged the company, they would trigger a clause in my contract and let me go.
I smiled and pretended that we hadn’t just gotten a legal letter from the company denying TJ’s account… and threatening to fire me if I talked.
I felt all of a sudden like I was walking around enemy territory… like I had to watch my every move and conversation. I felt scared to talk about TJ at all. [H/T: Ringside News]
