WWE Teases AEW Star’s Return Ahead Of John Cena’s Final Match
John Cena is officially wrapping up his legendary WWE career in December 2025, and WWE is pulling out all the stops to make his farewell unforgettable.
Cena announced back in July 2024 that 2025 would be his final year in the ring, kicking off a retirement tour full of major matches and unforgettable moments.
The last chapter of this epic journey will unfold on December 13, 2025, at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, where Cena’s final opponent will be decided by the “Last Time Is Now” tournament.
This tournament features 16 wrestlers from RAW, SmackDown, and NXT battling it out, with some familiar faces possibly returning for one last showdown. One name fans are buzzing about is Edge, arguably Cena’s greatest rival.
Edge Likely To Take Part In John Cena’s Tournament
WWE recently dropped a nearly two-hour-long video on their WWE Vault YouTube channel chronicling the intense rivalry between Cena and Edge, from their first clash in 2002 to their final battle in 2010.
This video dropped right as Cena’s retirement tour hits its final stretch, sparking wild speculation that Edge could be stepping back into the ring for this legendary sendoff.
Edge was pivotal in ending Cena’s first WWE Championship reign back in 2006, and their epic battles, including their WrestleMania 25 face-off, are still talked about today. However, Edge is currently with AEW, so whether he’ll cross company lines for this closure remains a hot topic.
As the countdown to December’s big event continues, fans everywhere are hyped to see who will face Cena in his goodbye match—whether it’s a current WWE star or a surprise returning legend like Edge.
Another name from Tony Khan’s promotion who is rumored to make his way back to WWE is Chris Jericho. Cena recently paid Y2J a homage during his singles match with AJ Styles at Crown Jewel when he used the Walls of Jericho submission move on his opponent.
However, the two legends might not cross paths again because Jericho is reportedly returning to WWE in 2026, and by that time, Cena would’ve already hung up his wrestling boots.
