WWE Targeting 2 Former AEW Champions
WWE is reportedly hoping to land a popular AEW tag team.
In recent months, WWE has brought over several stars who had previously been All Elite. These have included Andrade El IDolo, Shawn Spears, and most recently Ethan Page. Back in June, it was reported that Pental El Zero Miedo would open to making the jump to WWE when his contract expires later this year. At the time, Penta dismissed rumours of leaving AEW as a “rumour,” but admitted that it would be a “good episode” of his career.
Now, Fightful Select has reported that the star’s Lucha Bros teammate and real-life brother Rey Fenix’s deal will also be up this year, although the exact date is unknown. While AEW want to retain the services of the former World Tag Team Champions, it is expected that the popular stars will also have interest from WWE.
Tony Khan Confident Of Re-Signing Penta El Zero Miedo Despite WWE Interest
When news broke in June that Penta’s contract would be coming up in the next few months, it was reported that Tony Khan is confident the star will remain in AEW. Dave Meltzer noted in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the star had been unhappy about not being able to appear on shows with CMLL wrestlers, but that is no longer an issue.
Despite Khan’s confidence, Meltzer has also been told that Penta will explore his options at the end of his current deal, and has even looked at buying the rights to his name and gimmick with an eye to take it to WWE if necessary.
