WWE Superstar Confirms Retirement At 45

A 45-year-old WWE superstar has confirmed that he’s retired from the ring. The star in question is Wade Barrett.

Barrett rose to fame by winning the inaugural season of NXT in 2010. He quickly made waves as the leader of The Nexus, a faction that shook up WWE’s main roster with their rebellious antics.

He didn’t just stop there; he snagged the WWE Intercontinental Championship five times, tying legends like Edge and Triple H for the fourth most reigns ever. One of his greatest milestones was winning the King of the Ring tournament in 2015, becoming WWE’s first King of the Ring in four years.

Barrett’s last official WWE match happened back in April 2016. After that, he didn’t really step back into the ring for WWE. Instead, he transitioned to a commentary role for WWE RAW and SmackDown. Currently, he appears on the RAW brand.

That said, during the women’s tag team match between IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley vs. Asuka and Kairi Sane at Crown Jewel, Barrett casually dropped a statement saying, “Oof, I’m glad I’m retired.” This confirms that he’s hung up his wrestling boots for good.

Wade Barrett Would Have An In-Ring Return In WWE For This Condition

Last month, Wade Barrett had an interview with AceOdds where he was asked about the possibility of returning to the ring in the future. He replied that he will definitely put on his in-ring gear and shoes one more time if he gets to wrestle Drew McIntyre at Wembley Stadium.

“100%. Anytime I get asked this question, if I could have one match for the remainder of my days on this planet and you’re allowed one more match, who would it be? It would absolutely be me against Drew McIntyre at Wembley Stadium.”

“A sold-out Wembley Stadium, I think that is the pinnacle for British wrestling, especially if you’re fans of the era back when Davey Boy and Bret Hart competed in 92 at that SummerSlam.”
