More Details On WWE’s Superstar Spectacle Event In India
There are additional details about WWE’s Raw brand heading to India for the Superstar Spectacle this September.
It was announced by WWE earlier this week that they are heading back to India for a show called Superstar Spectacle on Friday, September 8th.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote about the show noting that it will be a Raw brand event.
“WWE announced the return to India on 9/8 with a show at the GMC Balayogi Indoor Stadium in Hyderabad. The show is on a Friday night so it will be the Raw crew going. This is the show that has been talked about for a long time, that had been scheduled last year but due to waiting for a major media merger in India to take place, it was delayed until between Sony TV (the longtime broadcast partner of WWE which was wanting a show in the country) and Zee finalized.”
“They are running a 5,000 seat building so it will sell out even though selling tickets to sports events in India is very difficult. The way most events in India work is that the promoter sells sponsorships instead of relying on gates, and then let’s spectators in free as opposed to charging for admission. WWE has never done this and that’s why even with all their popularity their live attendance has never been what people think it would be.”
“If they do the usual TV set up, you’re really talking closer to 3,500 there. Sony is basically paying for them to come in, so the attendance and gate for this show isn’t really the story.”
Some of the superstars featured on the poster for Superstar Spectacle are WWE World Champion, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley, WWE Tag Team Champions Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens, Drew McIntyre, the Intercontinental Champion GUNTHER and more.
What WWE Superstars From India Will Be Featured?
The Indus Sher stable of Jinder Mahal (who is a Canadian that has family origins in India) along with Veer & Sanga will likely be featured heavily at the Superstar Spectacle show. They have been a part of the Raw brand although they haven’t been on TV that much recently.
There is also Shanky, who remains on the WWE roster even though he hasn’t been seen on television in over one year. Since he’s on the poster for the show, there is a belief that he will be part of the event in some way.
