WWE Superstar Believes He’s A Contender Against Roman Reigns

Roman Reigns on the ring apron

Roman Reigns is the top attraction in WWE that is somebody everybody else is trying to take down, including one superstar that thinks he is close to that level.

It’s a big week for Roman Reigns as he heads toward the Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event in Montreal this Saturday, February 18th. Montreal will also host Smackdown as well. Reigns will defend the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Sami Zayn, who is from Montreal. Reigns is going into the match as the heavy favorite to win, but you never know in WWE.

If Roman Reigns can get by Zayn then his next challenger would be at WrestleMania 39 on April 1st or April 2nd (likely April 2nd) when he defends those titles against Royal Rumble winner Cody Rhodes. Perhaps that could be the night when Roman’s nearly 900 days as Universal Champion might come to an end.

The current WWE United States Champion Austin Theory is holding one of the most valuable titles in WWE after finding ways to retain the US Title against former champions like Seth “Freakin” Rollins and Bobby Lashley among others.

In an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp that took place before this year’s Royal Rumble, Austin Theory spoke about how he is in an elevated position in today’s WWE compared to where he was one year ago.

“Absolutely. I’m definitely in an elevated position now. Last year, I was figuring myself out and trying to figure out my ranks, especially coming in at number three. Being able to last over 20 minutes, though, I wasn’t too upset with that being my first Royal Rumble. But definitely, this year, taking advantage of everything that I’ve figured out, strategy-wise, for the Royal Rumble.”

As he continued, Austin Theory talked about beating the likes of Lashley and Rollins as the US Champion while saying he’s a fighting contender against Roman Reigns.

“When you look at somebody like Bobby Lashley, and you look at somebody like Seth Freakin’ Rollins, they’ve done it all they really have, but I think me being in the ring with them and me having that victory over both of them in different types of matches, it only helps me catapult myself to being a really fighting contender for that Undisputed WWE Universal Championship. I think it’s definitely a different man now that Roman Reigns has to deal with.”

Austin Theory goes into WWE Elimination Chamber this Saturday in a Chamber match where he’ll defend the US Title against Rollins, Johnny Gargano, Bronson Reed, Damian Priest and Montez Ford.
