40-Year-Old WWE Star Tipped To Dethrone Cody Rhodes
Veteran wants Cody Rhodes to lose his Undisputed WWE Championship to a 40-year-old WWE star. The star in question is none other than his current rival, Drew McIntyre.
Jacob Fatu and Drew McIntyre were supposed to have a one-on-one match on SmackDown to determine who’d challenge Cody Rhodes for his title. But a mystery assailant attacked Jacob Fatu on WWE SmackDown on October 17 during a backstage segment. As a result, McIntyre will now face Rhodes for the belt at Saturday Night’s Main Event in Salt Lake City, Utah, on November 1.
Wrestling veteran Bill Apter spoke about the upcoming match-up on the Sportskeeda Wrestling’s UnSKripted podcast, where he expressed his desire to see Drew McIntyre beat Cody Rhodes to become the new Undisputed WWE Champion. He thinks McIntyre has been deserving of a title win for a while now, and WWE should give him one at SNME next month.
“I want to see that. I’m not sick of Cody by any means, but I wanna see this. Give Drew his due; that would’ve been a good magazine headline. Yeah, I wanna see Drew do this, and I wanna see a slow heel turn on Cody Rhodes finally,” Apter said.
Cody Rhodes Vs Drew McIntyre Was Supposed To Take Place At Survivor Series
Wrestling Observer Newsletter’s Dave Meltzer recently revealed that the match scheduled between Rhodes and McIntyre was originally intended to take place at Survivor Series. But as a result of Fatu being sidelined, WWE chose to book the match early for Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1.
“Rhodes vs. McIntyre, originally scheduled for Survivor Series, was moved up here because Jacob Fatu, who was originally to face McIntyre on this show, is out of action.
That also speaks of the depth issue, as when Fatu went down, instead of plugging another babyface in a feud with McIntyre to set up Survivor Series, they went right to Rhodes vs. McIntyre.”
