WWE Star Continues To Tease Gimmick Change

A current WWE star that appears on Smackdown is likely going to undergo a gimmick change soon, which he teased on Twitter recently.

Pete Dunne has worked for WWE for over six years as one of the most successful guys on the NXT UK brand. Dunne had a lengthy reign as the NXT UK Champion.

When he was moved to the NXT brand from June 2019 until early 2022, Dunne had a lot of success there as well, including an NXT Tag Team Title reign with Matt Riddle.

It was just about a year ago in March 2022 when Dunne made his WWE main roster debut as Butch. Sheamus and Ridge Holland welcomed Butch into their group that has become known as The Brawling Brutes.

As Butch, Dunne portrays a character that is a bit of a loose cannon that enjoys attacking people randomly while oftentimes having to be held back by Sheamus and Ridge. It’s almost as if Butch is a wild dog that needs to be on a leash at times.

Earlier this week, it was reported by Wrestlevotes that WWE had plans to have Butch go back to the Pete Dunne name.

“Absolutely, I was told that it’s in the works. When Hunter came back, I was told that Pete Dunne was due to become Pete Dunne, but somebody said, to wait because The Brawling Brutes were catching on. When Pete Dunne returns, it won’t be as a member of the Brawling Brutes. I’m sure he’ll be back by the end of this year.”

Butch has added a bit more to that story by posting a photo of himself as the NXT UK Champion with the word “remember” as if to remind people of what he can do as Pete Dunne.

On the March 17th edition of Smackdown, Butch appeared in a backstage segment where Sheamus was getting ready for his match with Drew McIntyre.
