New WWE Star Expected To Surpass Asuka’s Legendary NXT Run

A new WWE signing is expected to make a big impact and could remind fans of Asuka’s terrific run on the NXT brand.

The WWE Women’s Evolution (or Revolution) that has lasted nearly a decade was headlined by some all-time great women’s wrestlers like the Four Horsewomen’s Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, Bayley and Sasha Banks (now in AEW as Mercedes Mone). While that foursome gets a lot of credit and deserves a lot of it as leaders in that era, a woman who joined WWE shorter after them has also had a big impact. That’s Asuka.

When looking back at Asuka’s WWE career which started in late 2015, she has won it all and done it all in terms of winning championships on the main roster while feuding with all the big names.

Prior to joining the main roster, Asuka was a dominant force on the NXT brand who had the longest NXT Women’s Title reign in company history at 510 days. More importantly, Asuka never lost a match in NXT, which is something that could make her arguably the greatest NXT superstar ever – male or female.

Asuka recently held the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships with Kairi Sane as the Kabuki Warriors. The duo lost the Women’s Tag Team Titles to Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill at WWE Backlash France. Asuka is currently off the road to recover from some injuries that have been bothering her.

Could WWE NXT Newcomer Giulia Be Bigger Than Asuka Was?

It has been reported by Fightful Select that WWE NXT newcomer Giulia will be pushed as the female face of the brand when she arrives. In addition to that, one source within WWE thinks that Giulia’s eventual NXT run will surpass what Asuka did in her career.

Giulia recently suffered a broken wrist, so there are questions about when she will be able to start with WWE. There were rumors that Giulia could start with the NXT brand on July 7th at Heatwave in Toronto, the Wrestling Observer reported that there are doubts about whether she would start by that date.

In the Fightful Select update, they noted that WWE won’t interfere with Giulia still appearing at shows that she was originally scheduled to wrestle on. There were concerns about the wrist injury being worse than originally feared, but her return to the ring depends on how the bone fracture in her right wrist heals.

There are also no concerns regarding Giulia’s ability to obtain a work visa while working in the United States since she has worked there before.

Regarding the rumors of a possible Giulia match with Roxanne Perez at NXT Heatwave in Toronto on July 7th, Fightful reports that those plans are not official or locked in. However, Fightful adds that “officials in NXT are dead set on making an NXT Women’s Championship title clash with Roxanne Perez happen upon Giulia’s debut within the company.”

It is expected that Giulia will make good on the dates that she has left with the Marigold promotion and those that she misses due to injury. Fightful adds that while Giulia signed with WWE in April, she won’t be exclusive to NXT and WWE for quite a while because working with Marigold was a sticking point in her negotiations to sign with World Wrestling Entertainment.
