WWE Star Splits From Long-Time Partner

WWE Carmelo Hayes Trick Williams

A long-time partnership has come to an end in WWE… For now.

As seen on the August 1st episode of WWE NXT, Carmelo Hayes and Trick Williams have amicably agreed to go their separate ways.

Following a successful title defence at the Great American Bash, NXT Champion Hayes and long time friend Williams met in the locker room. Williams stated that while he is ride or die with Hayes, he is not a sidekick. Hayes told Williams that he is not a sidekick, to which Williams understood, but the fans think that he is.

Williams said that he has a point to prove on the brand, and that this is not a break-up, he just has to be his own man. Hayes respected the decision of Williams, and wished his close friend luck in the solo venture.

Williams and Hayes had been aligned since September 2021. While Williams has been by Hayes side to help Melo achieve multiple title reigns, Williams has yet to win gold in NXT.

What’s Next For WWE Stars Carmelo Hayes & Trick Williams?

Wanting to prove himself right off the bat, Trick Williams’ first match as a solo star will be against the man who Hayes successfully defeated at The Great American Bash, Ilja Dragunov. The match is scheduled to take place on August 8th.

Hayes was in action later that night, teaming up with Wes Lee to face the team of Noam Dar and Oro Mensah. In the match, Lee would accidentally strike Hayes, causing the team to be defeated and the partners to be at odds after the bell rang.

In what was a newsworthy Great American Bash fallout episode of NXT, SmackDown star Santos Escobar made a surprise appearance by coming to the aide of a former rival. Also on the show, Hall of Famer Rey Mysterio confirmed that he would be present on the August 8th edition, ensuring that Rhea Ripley does not give North American Champion Dominik Mysterio an unfair advantage in his title match.
