A major WWE star has explained how the kindness of a WWE Hall of Famer led to the pursuit of a wrestling career.

There are many stories of current WWE superstars meeting legends and eventually becoming work colleagues with that person. It’s because pro wrestling is a unique world where fans fall in love with it, and sometimes never stop loving it, so it leads some of them to pursue their dreams of becoming a wrestler.

One of the most famous stories involving a wrestler meeting their hero is WWE Hall of Famer Lita meeting AJ Lee. Many wrestling fans have seen the video of the meeting, which took place on July 18, 2001, when Lita was in her second year in WWE.

At the time of the meeting, AJ Lee was just 14 years old. She didn’t know it at the time, but Lee would go on to be a 3-time WWE Women’s Champion (it was the Divas Title at the time) and carve her own path as a superstar who will likely join Lita in the Hall of Fame in the future.

Meeting WWE Legend Lita Was A “Pivotal Moment” In AJ Lee’s Life

During an interview on Stephanie McMahon’s What’s Your Story? podcast, AJ Lee spoke about how impactful it was to meet Lita at that point in her life.

“My first signing was Lita. I wrote her a letter and it was probably the most embarrassing thing in the world. If she had been mean or dismissive or anything, if she was anything but warm and wonderful, who knows what direction I would have went in life. Maybe I would have hated wrestling and never done it.

So that little girl is starving; she’s probably living in a motel. She (Lita) doesn’t know that, but she’s so kind to me, and she took the letter and was like, ‘I will read this,’ and then she gave me her marker, and I kept it for years and years and years.

That was like a pivotal moment, sliding doors, who knows what would have happened if that didn’t go that way, and I didn’t feel seen.

So now when I do these signings I’m like, ‘You’ve given me your whole day, you’ve traveled here for seven hours, and I only get these two minutes with you, they’re going to be the best f**king two minutes in the world, we are going to become best friends in those two minutes.’”

Next up for AJ Lee in a WWE ring is the Women’s Wargames match at Survivor Series on November 29th. Lee will be on the babyface team with Rhea Ripley, Iyo Sky, Charlotte Flair & Alexa Bliss against the heel team of Nia Jax, Asuka, Lash Legend, Kairi Sane, and Becky Lynch, who is Lee’s main rival.
